The only real issue with the place is that it is so close to Seattle, it can feel like a Microsoft convention. Usually when we go there, it feels like we know 1 out of 5 people who are there.
Nevertheless, the location is amazing. For all of you old Twin Peaks fans, it is right there. The rooms are comfortable and you can walk down to the falls.
The spa is terrific. They rebuilt the top floor and it is water paradise. The massages are great and the restaurant is very good.
Folks rave about the Sunday Brunch and it is indeed a wonderful view and very nice (although I still think I make the better omelet ;-)
Finally, if you are a bike rider, this is a perfect spot to start the day and take a ride through the countryside. It is getting less so with all the development in Snoqualmie, but still great fun.

OK, we've not been there since the original managers moved to Montana or whereever, but I trust it has retained its roots. This is a wonderful place on Whidbey that we've gone to for romantic getaways and for a big 40th birthday bash.
It is a perfect blend of relaxing interiors, a very nice spa and lots of outdoor activities. On one weekend for the birthday bash, we kayaked, spa'ed and rode bikes around the island.
Then settled down at the big table to watch our dinner get prepared and enjoyed some fabulous wine. They have an incredible wine list of really rare washington wines, so the foodie and wino will be very happy.
Super tranquil location yet very close to Seattle. Check it out.

But in any case, we've been here are few times. Microsoft used to have their retreats here and I can't come here without remembering the stress of what was then called the Microsoft management retreat. Kind of a combination SAT plus a prom for geeks. Really fun to do the cases. The facility though is great. It is in the rain shadow, so doesn't rain as much, it is at the end of a huge spit and you can sail, you can play tennis and they have a big indoor/outdoor pool.
We've been there twice with the kids. Once just after knee surgery for me where the walk to the pool was the longest 300 yards I've ever done. The strange thing about them is that they want to be kid friendly, but they don't let kids into the hot tub. So folks are always breaking the rules to go there. Oh, well.
Also went there with friends and they have decent restaurants and things on site. There is not much else out there. We know, we went to a Mexican restaurant and then there is the mall farther down, but it is a great retreat.
Haven't tried the golf, but that is supposed to be fine too.

By car geek friend Mike goes there religiously and I can see why. I've been going there for nearly 10 years now and they do a great job. Very clean and although expensive, it really makes the fancy car look great.
They are amazing magicians. For instance, I once had a quart of oil in the trunk which cracked, leaving all of it on the carpet. Clean as a whistle is how good they are.
So a little out of the way, but go for it if you've got that shiny pimped out rig that needs the extra love.

OK, so it isn't like a $300 detail nor is it the quickie $7 with your gas and who cares if it scratches wash. It is instead as many folks have noted a Seattle institution. For $20, you get 20 minutes of joy as your kids watch it and you get to remember all those movies feature car washes when you were a kid.
They use soft brushes so they hopefully won't destroy your finish and for $20, it is a decent job. So, not the very best, but a good value for the money. BTW, the downtown location is the oldest and funnest just because the elephant is so big.

OK, not for everyone, but if you've got a little slugger who needs to learn some skills, this is a great place to go. Way down in the industrial heart of Seattle, this hard to find place (it is right behind the Elephant Car Wash) is the place to go.
It is jammed with kids and most importantly coaches that know what they are doing. 5-weeks of one hour each are $225, so its a little pricey, but in one session, our Calvin threw 100% better. You can 3-4 kids in the same session for the same price, so that makes it very reasonable.
check it out before baseball season begins!

There are nicer places out on Route 1, but somehow, it is nice to be able to get there and be just across the street.

OK, what can I say, the pancakes are mediocre, but when you've been going to the place for 20 years plus, it has something special.
This place is a Princeton institution. I can still see my roommate smiling from ear to ear as he dug into a pancake stack after an all nighter. (Heck, he's a write and allowed to do that).
The pancakes are what it is all about and the service is classic New Jersey. When I took my oh so cool investor colleagues, they nearly ran out of there and headed for the nearest Starbucks. Like all NJ places, they have a certain hospitality that I've always loved. When one colleague asked for a banana, the waitress got into a car, went to the grocery store and got her a bunch of them. Now that's service.
It's a must go for any alumni :_)

Iyabo is trying something different. She used to work at the Polyclinic seeing lots of patients. Now, she runs her own practice limited to 700 or so people. You pay a relatively (for the doctor world) small fee and then you get really personal care.
For instance, when I first went there, the receptionist, asked me what kind of tea I liked. The first meeting was in a conference room and in about 15 seconds, all the followup was done. And best of all she reads email and so does everyone else there and they answer it.
For well care, this is wonderful, to have someone to make sure you are tuned up. She works with personal trainers, nutritionists, etc. And, when you are sick, believe me, even with a Doctor-wife, you need someone to help you through the maze. Get appointments, etc.
Its a sad thing, but our medical system locks the poor out and make everyone else wait in line, so if you have the resources, I'd highly suggest thinking about someone like Iyabo to work with.

All three of our kids were delivered by Tracy and her partners. Connie trained with her at the UW (one of the top three OB/GYN programs in the country, which is amazing given all the high quality programs out there).
Tracy is great. She specializes in high risk OB. I'll never forget her look of concern as our first child went through the most incredible late decels (for the novice, this means that after a contraction, if the heart rate slows, the baby is in distress). Nevertheless, Alex pulled through fine (big brained kid!) and our experience with Tracy was terrific.
Final aside, is that she's a great person to boot.
So, if you are in high risk (in OB, by the way, that means over 35 years old), you might really want to consider Tracy.
