If you want a place that feels like a traditional surf and turf shop and which has a view, then the leschi Daniel's Broiler is the ticket.
It has a great view of Lake Washington and if you have a boat during the summer, you can even motor over there.
The steaks are great, the Australian lobster is ridiculous and I love their really, really big knives. The red wine is super fine.
On really depressing times (when deals are going south), there is nothing quite like it. Or when Grace wants to go there, because their Teriyaki Beef kids meal is incredible.

Well, if you are taking your parents out, there are a couple of traditional places that just reek of Seattle. Assuming you actually like them (your parents I mean).
The first is Canlis, we've been there a couple of times this year and the main thing is that the view is just spectacular. You overlook Union Bay and at night it is great.
The food has been considerably updated from the 80s and it is now really Pacific Northwest so should be fine for folks. And the wine list is superb.

In spirit of full disclosure, Linda Beers and Holden Withington are old friends. Linda has done landscape work for us and Holden has helped us on building and remodeling for a long time.
Give them a try. Holden is the architect and Linda does the landscape architecture as a husband and wife team and they do remodels, new construction. Most importantly, they are good folks who really listen.
Given them a call if you have a chance.
For larger projects, I'd recommend John Manos as a builder, but you were asking about architects. In the three remodels we've done the general contractor has been way more important than the architect, but that's just from our POV

It is a members only club, so you have to know someone there, but the service is terrific and people are incredibly friendly.
We got there on a day where there was 4" of powder down below and in the Ching Forest (their backcountry) there was mountains of fresh powder. Those who know so that it is the only place where you get a lift to what would normally be someplace you'd have to helicopter into.
There are lots of great high speed runs. It is like the grand slalom speed runs below and for fun there is a ridge where you get to drop 20 feet straight down onto 60 degree slope. Super fun.
They only have space for 800 homes in all and there are just 200 home there now, so it is very uncrowded. There is a waiting list and the folks there have to like you for you to get in, so no jerk rich folks allowed.
It is truly paradise there though!

We rented one and got it in the wrong format. Prices are OK and he's right friendly :-)

Well, there isn't much shopping that you can do in Big Sky, but after your hour from Bozeman, you can load up at the Hungry Moose on not just a newspaper, but really delicious roasted chicken. Since most flights to ski land get in late, that's a great way to have a late meal.
Their salads are great too and they stock all manner of organic produce, high end crisps and other goodies. You need it before you launch yourself into the snow!

I think I already reviewed Cafe Lago, but if you are wondering about their 25 for $25, we had a great time with this promotion. The meal was terrific and this program included a very nice pasta, a dessert and friendly service.
So that's a great choice and it is close in Montlake.

They also make ice cream with liquid nitrogen which is very cool. finally, as an extra charge they will let you see an IMAX movie which is great fun.

It is also a great place to learn gymnastics and probably the most serious place in Seattle for that.
