Goodway Graphics (Rick Joly) provides printing services for my graduate school's flagship journal (The Fletcher Forum of World Affairs), and I was in charge of working with them to print and distribute the journal.
Rick's service to us was excellent. As a student publication, we have a high turnover of staff and not always enough training for the replacement crew. There were certain tasks that I was supposed to do that no one told me about, and Rick was always there to educate me and remind me, even though it wasn't his job. He knows his job inside out and loves it.
I didn't give the company 5 stars because there was one time when a journal batch was shipped out late to our subscribers, and it was Rick's fault. But this was only once in all the years that the journal has worked with him. I know my predecessors, too, enjoyed his services.

These guys are located right in the heart of Davis Square, which makes them easily accessible. They do the normal stuff - sell cameras, albums and frames, take ID polaroids, and do photo-finishing at average prices. What makes them stand apart in my eyes is the highly good-natured, almost humorous, manner in which they carry out their business. It's just fun to go there, and I opt for them over Ritz, Wolf and other chain places.

I went here twice before switching to Salon Luna (see another review). Both times I got a very good cut by a tall bald guy (Craig, I think, but not sure). It was about $45 for the cut and dry, and some $90 for highlights touch-ups. The reason I switched to another salon (aside from all the recommendations I got for Salon Luna) was that the last time I went, I asked for highlights touch-ups again, and the guy gave me full highlights without discussing that with me, and then charged me for it. That just turned me off from them.

Right across from Starbucks, Diesel is anything but corporate-looking. Most baristas are women in boys' outfits with body piercings and black boots, and the whole place has an "alternative" look. While I prefer Starbucks for coffee (though you may not), I'd definitely point to Diesel for food. They have a nice sandwich, soup, salad and sweets menu that has never disappointed me.
They also re-did the whole place this year. I can't remember if they kept the pool tables, but they opened up theback of the store with more seating and a computer area - much appreciated by the grad student in need of caffeine, food and place to study.

I went there 4 times before moving away from Boston, and each time came out very pleased. I have to say that Jen (got 2 cuts with her) is probably the best- she always gave my hair a nice extra touch. But her fiance Andy and their co-worker Ephraim are also very good, judging by the cut I got from each of them.
The basic cut is $45, and the salon is conveniently located right across from the Porter T stop.

Yoshi's is across the street from my old house, so of course this was the primary place that I would get Japanese food. It's an affordable, convenient and pleasant enough little place, and their non-sushi food is fine. Especially some of the noodle soups are pretty good.
However, the primary fare of a sushi place is sushi, and they're somewhat lacking in freshness there and serve sushi at the wrong temperature. We completely stopped ordering their sushi after we were served a spider roll that tasted plain spoiled.
Go there for dumplings, soup or a bento box, but I wouldn't do a la carte.

My husband and I were happy to discover Blue Fin in the Porter Square exchange. The place is nothing stylish or highly decorated, but it serves very good and honest sushi, the service is fairly quick, and the prices are reasonable for sushi. You always know you came to the right place if a lot of the other customers are Japanese.
The small downside is that on popular nights there can be a bit of a wait, and I don't think they take reservations. But with just 2-3 people, I've never had to wait long anyway.

I definitely give this restaurant a thumbs up. I do have to say that, as far as traditional sushi goes, I've had better (hence the 3 stars), but Wasabi Bistro still ranks above average - plus, it comes with a fun twist. If you're tired of regular California maki and spicy tuna, the rolls at this place will be a fun change. They still use mostly traditional ingredients, but these come in new combinations and flavors - it's like fusion sushi. The tigertail roll was our favorite. On a warm summer evening, try to snag a table outside.

I hired this company to send a few guys to my house to load my stuff into shipping containers for a cross-country move. DN Van Lines does moves as well, but cant vouch for them there because I used Smart Move to provide the containers and do the actually shipping from Boston to Seattle.
The charge was $119/hr for 3 men (total), plus $119 charge for their trip to my house and back. This seems to be the going rate in the Boston area.
The guys came late (1.75 hrs after the end of the 3-hr window when they were supposed to come), but they were great. They were very nice and courteous, took great care with my boxes and furniture, and worked very efficiently. It took them 2.5 hrs to load my large 1-bd apartment into 3 containers. The guy I booked with, also at DN Van Lines, called several days before to confirm everything, called the day of the move to alert me to the delay in the men's arrival, and called the morning after to follow up and get my feedback. So, despite the delay, I was quite happy with the whole deal.

I booked my car to be shipped with a broker, and Roger's was the company who actually shipped it.
On the good side, the driver was very nice whom I met at both ends of the trip (Boston and Seattle) was very nice, and the car arrived perfectly okay and in just 3.5 days.
Customer service, however, was terrible. The car was to be picked up on a Tuesday, and when no one came by mid-day, I called to check up. I was told at first that the truck wouldn't come till Wednesday, and later, till Thursday night. (Wednesday was my day of departure from Boston to Seattle!) Despite their confident claim of a Thursday night pick-up, Wednesday morning I stepped away from my phone for 30 minutes and got a voice mail from Roger's that the truck had come and gone, and since I wasn't available right then and there, they sent it on without picking up my car! After some yelling at Roger's and at the broker who originally booked this move, they eventually relented to come back for my car, but they tried very hard to make me drive it far outside the city, claiming that the truck couldn't fit into our residential neigborhood - not true at all! I paid for a pick-up at my house, so they eventually came closer to me, but it was a nightmare dealing with them, just 3 hrs before I had to leave for the airport.
