If you're out for good seafood, give this place a try. You can choose from several main dishes, including grilled yellowfin tuna, memorable for it's sweet tuna flavor, complemented with jasmine rice and crisp sauteed veggies. There's also finger licking good fish and chips, and reportedly the best fish tacos in town. The tacos vary according to the catch of the day, but you can usually select from halibut, salmon, or tuna. My personal favorite has to be the swordfish club sandwich which comes stuffed with bacon, lettuce, tomato and avocado. If you ain't into swordfish, then try the salmon burger, and if you're not into fish at all, then try the grilled chicken burger.

Great looking little restuarant that's a well kept secret in La Jolla; ie, great place for a first date. Start out with the liver pate on toast complemented with a bottle of excellent house red wine, and you've already set a romantic mood for the rest of the evening. The menu is traditional French — frog's legs, escargot... don't freak out, there's also steak au poivre and an awesome rack of lamb. The star attraction in my opinion is the flaming crepes suzette; both theater and food. Don't forget to call in advance, as the one nightly seating fills up fast.

My personal favorite is the pork dumplings which are served piping hot. Dan Dan noodles, made with elegantly skinny pasta, are flavored with pork and assertive red pepper. I would stay away from the Mango crab salad or the coconut shrimp, as both were flavorless and less than perfect compared to the other choices. However, don't fret. The best dishes here are all the classic chinese dishes we all know and love.

This is a picturesque steakhouse; you got your dim lights, lots of wood, and lots of flavor. For starters, try any of their mouth watering appetizers such as crab cakes, shrimp scampi or a Caesar salad. But don't forget to leave enough room for the steaks; you can choose from melt-in-your-mouth filet mignon, rib-eye and the signature dry-aged 30-ounce porterhouse. The sides could be a little more energetic, but overall are a good complement to the steak. The staff is welcoming and very attentive. The wine list is also respectable and reasonably priced.

Lefty's is a casual pizza joint fashioned after the mom-and-pop pizzerias found all over Chicago. The average 35-40 minutes wait is a small price to pay for the quality pie you're about to taste. The Meaty Pie (sausage, pepperoni, meatball, Italian beef) is a meat lover's fantasy and the South Sider (beef, green pepper, onion and hot giardiniera, a spicy blend of pickled veggies) will outcompete your favorite spicy dish. There are also several choices for vegetarians, including the Spinach Supreme and the Farmers Market. My personal favorite: The Great Sausage Pie. Lefty's also offers pizza by the slice, as well as salads, sandwiches and a number of tasty appetizers.

this is a fish lover's paradise. Customers in line get to pick from five salmon preparations: lemon or garlic butter, teriyaki, chipotle or blackened. don't worry, you can mix and match as you wish. The fish is prepared beautifully, and is served with a pretty decent salad and a tasty side dish of rice. For halibut lovers, the halibut sandwich is a must have and is extremely delicious. The self service nature and the plastic utensils hopefully won't be too much of a distraction to the taste and quality of the splendid seafood. That also goes for the overall decor of the place; this is not picasso's workshop.

Axis has great "seafood in a bar", but they also Though serve a variety of meat, fish, soup, and salads. They have six main entrees; the cod, scallops and salmon are my personal favorites. The Sauteed Salmon with Pesto Potatoes and Asparagus Salad is the tastiest choice on the menu in my opinion. The portions are a bit small, but then again the quality of the food makes up for the lack of quantity. And, there's alway room for dessert, and Axis has a pretty deep selection of mouth watering sweets that will please any dessert connoisseur. The drinks are also well done and appropriately priced.

Star of India has five locations in San Diego and they are all pretty much the same in food quality. The food is just above average, but there is a large selection and the food is authentic. One thing that really stands out is the hospitality of the staff; they are all very nice and treat you like you're the most important guest. I also had the opportunity to sample their catered food at a graduation party and there was a definite drop in quality; however, for catering purposes, it is a good choice if you're after reasonable Indian catering.

Excelsior Brasserie offers European cuisine, a fine wine list, and is located in prime real estate on Prospect street in La Jolla. The food is above average but is pretty pricey; hey, the owner is got to pay the rent somehow. The real draw for this place is the live jazz on wednesday nights; there is no cover and the acts are usually pretty awesome. on thursday nights, you can meet up for dinner and drinks before heading out to the other nightlife in the area (Thursday nights are the only happening night in La Jolla).

this is by far one of the best places to gather with a large group of family and friends. It has a real fun atomosphere and the overall ambiance makes you feel at home. I think the food is above average, and the quantity is a lot (usually one entree feeds two hungry adults). great place for birthday parties, graduation, or celebrating any special event. for extra nice tables, call 1-2 wks in advance to reserve (ie the table in the kitchen usually is booked one month out). the house wine is one area where they could improve; although you get a lot, it's not the best quality. Enjoy!
