I joined a few years ago and loved all the perks-discounts at the store, free museum tours...They have lots to choose from all over the city, some are free, some are discounted to members. Most are lead by volunteers who love architecture. The boat tour is most popular!

Jim teaches stained glass at this studio. Its a bit far out from the city, but the Saturday morning classes are relaxing and fun. Jim is quirky-sometimes in a good way, sometimes not, but you always get a discount on your classes when you buy materials. He also sells pre-made items, and does orders. He also does some fused glass and some bead-making.

This is the best volunteer organization you will ever participate in. First of all, it is huge and has projects of all types, all the time. Second of all, if you don't want commitment, you don't have to commit! Just call in a week or so before you want to volunteer. So on busy weeks there are no worries, but other weeks you can jump right in. Lots of fun things to do with kids, seniors, building houses, cleaning parks, etc.

The largest tyrannasaurus Rex is at the Field Musuem and her name is Sue. Her head is so heavy they couldn't put in on the skeleton for display (the one on there is just a mold), but it is displayed for you to take a close look at. But there is a lot more there to see, check the webpage to see if they have free days. Great for people of all ages.

Currently, the museum has the awesome exhibit, Body Worlds. It also permanently has the submarine exhibit, a genetics exhibit where kids love to watch chicks hatch, a combine (yes!), a coal mine exhibit where you go down into the coal mine, and so much more. And you can contact them to volunteer, and you get free admission for you and your family, whenever you want!!

I love the solar system room-where they have huge models of each planet in bright colors. The planetarium also has lots of special events, they have a social hour with drinks about once a month, and when mars was so close they had telescopes set out on the lawn for visitors to use. Their gift shp is pretty fun too.

Last year I went on the Wrigley Field tour and it was pretty cool. They take you into the locker rooms-well, they don't let you near the lockers themselves, but you can see all of them. And the best part, you get to go out onto the field! Make sure to bring your ball and glove and a camera. Check the Cubs website for tour dates and rates-but it was pretty cheap when I went.

Most people would say the best aspect of the Brew and View is that you can drink during a movie, but you can talk too-which is typically shunned upon. The ground floor has tables and booth seating and balcony upstairs has the traditional stadium style seating. They run some good, not too long ago released movies. You can also smoke here-for me thats a negative, but you might like the option. On busier nights they also have pizza and hotdogs for sale, and they have mixed drink specials. If you go for the first movie on a weekend night you can stay through the second one and through the midnight show so its a great deal movie-wise!

I loved this place before they remodeled. It seems to be family owned. The owner insists on having a tiny tv at the front counter. The food is good-and spicy means spicy, but almost anything you order, always comes with the same huge array of sliced and diced vegetables-which I love. It just seems a little silly. Oh-and the spring rolls with plum sauce are to die for. The newly remodeled version is huge, and BRIGHT, and white and cafeteria like. They are pretty fast-and relatively cheap,so a great neighborhood fall-back when you just don't want to cook.
