This eclectic store is hiding off the main street in downtown Amherst. They carry product lines that will tend to be associated with "hippies". They have lots of incense, batik clothing, and similar items. Crystals, dream catchers, and other new wave items are also part of the selection. Most of their clientèle seems to be college students, and people who still wish they were. Think the parking lot sale at a Phish or Grateful Dead concert crammed into a little store, and you get the idea what The Mercantile is.
