Kirkland's Houghton beach is the top spot for teens wanting to get some sand and sun. The beach is staffed by lifeguards through August. Although not hot, the water is warm enough for those who brave it. A long pier provides a place for jumping into the water. There is a dock to swim to and hang out on.
There is a large area of sand for volleyball and grass for spreading out a towel and chatting with friends.
It is not a friendly place for those with toddlers and young children because of the high number of teens- it's just to hard to keep them out of their way and control the content of what they hear/see. Parking is somewhat difficult on hot days- park along Lake Washington Blvd.

The donut house is a small donut shop that serves up fresh donuts each morning along with regular coffee. They have a steady stream of regular clients coming in for their morning fix. If you don’t get there early, you are out of luck. What you see in the window, is what is available. They usually have run out of selection by about 10a.m. and you have to choose from what is leftover. The prices are on the high side with a dozen costing you over $8.00. The service is a little slow and inpatient with those who just can’t decide.

Doing a steady stream of business along 85th street, I have found Best Cleaner’s to be one of the better cleaners in Kirkland. They are quick and can usually accommodate your request for turn around time if you need it quickly. I have never had a problem with bad pleats or ironing. The also offer alteration services which although expensive, were done with great skill. The staff is friendly and easy to understand. The prices are average in Kirkland for dry cleaning services.

They can do same day/next day services if needed for an extra charge.I have never had a problem with the quality of the services performed. They also perform alterations on-site (although a bit pricey). The prices are pretty reasonable and seem to be average for Kirkland area.

Hidden behind Baskin Robbins, I have really been impressed with Rose Hill Cleaners. There is usually never a line- and it is easy to park there in the morning for pick up and drop off. The prices are average for Kirkland. The staff is friendly and quick. My clothes have always come back neatly pressed and have never had a problem with stain removal.

A little small, but it is packed with beautiful light fixtures from the basic bathroom to the extravagant chandelier or bedroom type lighting. They have eclectic pieces that would fit any décor. They also know their lights. I’ve brought in a light bulb with no information, and they were able to determine the voltage and type and provide me with an inexpensive replacement on the spot. Other times, they have needed to order the specific bulb I’ve needed. The service was quick and they called me promptly when it was available for pick up. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful.

Seattle lighting actually has several locations, but I have only used the Bellevue store. I first contacted them by phone at which time I found a friendly employee who went out of his way to ensure the fan I needed was available. It was at their Vancouver store, so after about a two week wait, my fan was available for pick up in Bellevue. There they quickly retrieved my fan, ensured it was the one I needed and I was done. I did take the chance to peek around their showroom and was impressed by the number of lighting and fan displays available. There is something out there for everyone and every room

A skate arena like the old days! Bellevue Skate King is a favorite place with our kids. They offer public skate sessions as well as the ever popular birthday parties. If you book a birthday party, it includes skates for the kids and an area to have the gifts and food/cake in.
You can rent inline skates for a few dollars more. The floor is a bit old, but still works. The music has changed a little, but the games like hokey-pokey have not! The staff keeps it upbeat and lively by changing the sessions around a bit (couples, backwards, etc.). There are a few arcade type games there too when you tire of skating.

Located in the Kingsgate community of Kirkland, Kingsgate Ice Arena offers a variety of on ice activities such as ice hockey, learn to skate programs and public skating sessions. You can access their learn to skate programs directly or through the Kirkland Parks and Recreation department. The arena is older and definitely not a beauty to look at, but the ice is good and the instructors are easy going and helpful. The rental ice skates could all use new shoe laces-but what can you expect for rental skates. It’s reasonable to do for the family without breaking the bank and good exercise to boot!

But as a buyer, it is very easy to find the size you are looking for. Most of the clothing is quality, many are top named brand. They carry some baby toys and baby items as well. The selection is always changing, and they do keep up on the seasonal wear. Stop in frequently, because you’ll never know what you can find. The prices are not of a thrift store, but they aren’t retail either. Most outfits are about $5-9.
