Towering Pines Resort - Great place to stay in Northern MN 9/4/2006

On our recent vacation, this is where we stayed based on a recommendation by a co-worker. From the time I called to inquire about the resort to the time we left, the owners were very nice and helpful. I haven’t stayed in a lot of cabin resorts, so I don’t have a lot to compare to, but from this place was very nice. Amenities: We stayed in one of the 3 bedroom cabins. Two of the bedrooms had one double bed and the 3rd bedroom had 2 double beds with some room to spare. There was also a pull out sofa bed in the living room. The kitchen was stocked with plates, silverware, pots, pans, and a variety of utensils. There was also a stove, dishwasher, coffee maker, and microwave. Each cabin also has a charcoal grill. Each cabin gets its own dock. You can use one of their boats (you pay extra for a motor) or you can bring your own and tie it to your own dock. The resort is on Clamshell Lake which is a small lake connected to the Whitefish Chain. I didn’t do any fishing, but everyone else in our group did catch some fish (mostly bass). We were there in August, so I don’t think the walleyes bite that time of the year. The resort also has paddle boats, a playground, walking paths, a rec room (not the highlight of the resort), a mini golf course, and a variety of indoor and outdoor games. Make sure to bring… Pretty much everything perishable isn’t included – such as soap (including dishwasher soap), charcoal, lighter fluid, paper towels, toilet paper, etc. You also need to bring your own towels. The downside – I wish there was a fire pit for a campfire. We weren’t there on a Friday night, but the owners do host a campfire each week on Friday nights. I encourage you to check out their website for a full list of amenities and pictures of each cabin. They have a variety of cabin sizes and each has something a bit different. Check out their website at ToweringPines.com: http://brainerd.com/toweringpines/ I also recommend that you check out the area while you are there – there are many cute small towns in the area well worth a visit.
