I took up cello lessons at the Garden State Academy of Music. The instructors (and especially the director) are intense and love music. The instructors are obviously devoted to the arts and to their students. My cello instructor was very sweet, patient, and kind. Instructions cost a bit of money, but if you have it, music instructions are a great way to enhance your life. It has been a few years since my last cello lesson, and I think of my lessons and my instructor fondly.

I practiced Tae Kwon Do at Blue Dragons Tae Kwon Do Academy for four years. The instructors are disciplined, knowledgeable, and perfectionists - and they don't expect anything less from their students. The instructors knew how to teach martial arts well, and also tried innovative techniques. The community at this academy was very strong. Everyone (students and instructors alike) knew each other on a first name basis and we would help each other if needed.
Tae Kwon Do classes are generally expensive, relative to a health club membership. However, Tae Kwon Do is not only a work-out for the body, but it disciplines the mind.

The Mountain Goat is where many college students purchase the coveted Nalgene (an item that is seen on many campuses in Western Massachusetts). The Mountain Goat obviously sells other sporting good items than the Nalgene, such as clothing, hiking boots, sandals, and backpacks. This is a good place to go if you are an 'outdoors'y type of person. They sell lots of accessories as well - heat packs, nutrition bars, Nalgene accessories, socks, etc.

Ten Thousand Villages sells household items, jewelry, toys, stationary, and even coffee. The jewelry selection is great - the styles are very "in" right now with bold chunky accessories and vibrant colors. I bought one necklace, a bracelet and an anklet for about $30. Ten Thousand Villages is also great to purchase household items and gifts for friends. There seems to be infinite trinkets in the store - you won't notice everything the first time around . Additionally, part of the proceeds go to help needy families overseas.

I got my navel pierced at Loonar's. When I called to ask questions about the procedure and price, the receptionist was professional, well-informed, and helpful. The cost for the navel piercing and jewelry was approximately $40. Although the staff may look intimidating, they were very friendly and professional. My friend and I didn't make an appointment, but we didn't have to wait long even though it was a Saturday afternoon. I have recommended Loonar's to friends thinking about getting piercings and/or tattoos - everyone is always satisfied with Loonar's work.

If you are looking for a "natural" product, you will probably find it at Cornucopia! Cornucopia sells natural foods, teas, coffees, ice cream, prepared foods, drinks, snacks, and body care items. There is even a section of loose leaf herbs and tea leaves - you can prepare your own herbal remedies or teas. Cornucopia is small, but so are the rest of the stores in Northampton. Finally, the staff are super helpful if you need assistance.

My friends and I heard a rumor that King's had Tuesday ladies night...so being the recently-graduated-from-college-poor-young-professionals that we are, we decided to make the trip over there and check it out. Indeed Tuesday nights are free bowling for ladies after 8 PM. However, beware that the shoe rental is not included in this deal (so be prepared to fork over a few bucks if you don't have your own bowling shoes). In addition, King's allows only 2 games per group (this applies during peak hours, such as Tuesday evenings and on weekends). After your allotted 2 games, you can be put on the "wait list" to play another free 2 games. Final note - ladies night is only applicable to 21+ individuals.
King's has a great lounge and bar that we chilled in while waiting. The drinks are good, but expensive. Each drink was ~9-12 dollars. King's resembles an upscale bar that happens to have bowling - instead of a "typical" bowling alley.
The crowd was mostly 30s to middle aged, so young adults may feel quite *young*.

So Good Jewelry has a few stores in Boston, but I've only been to the Newbury Street location. Look carefully for the Newbury Street store - it is easy to miss because the store itself is below ground level!
When you walk into the store, you'll immediately be overwhelmed by all the glittering and sparkling items. Once your eyes get adjusted to the "lights", you will find a neat little jewelry store that sells everything accessory-related from belts to the standard jewelry items. The prices are fair, depending on what you are purchasing. This is a great place to get gifts for your female friends or girlfriend! The store has a younger clientèle, ranging from 10 years old to mid-20s.

I love open markets. Markets are a source of energy, excitement, and great deals! Haymarket is an exciting place to buy fruits and vegetables. Haymarket is also a tourist attraction. No where else in Boston will you find customers frantically searching for better deals or vendors constantly yelling at their customers. It is truly an experience! However, beware of the quality of the produce you are purchasing. Many of the vendors will not let you touch their produce and will pick out the produce for you. On the bright side, even if you come home with a box full of moldy strawberries, you probably only paid $0.50 or $1.00 for it. The trip to Haymarket is still well worth it.

I tried their 3-day free trial membership and I fell in love! This is a great gym - it has tons of cardiovascular machines, weights, and fitness classes. In addition to these "gym basics", FitCorp also had free towel service, lots of space, breathtaking locker room, TVs on all or most of the cardio machines, and a great central air system. The staff were friendly and informative. The members at this location (in the heart of Longwood Medical Area) were mainly young healthcare workers - doctors, nurses, college and graduate students, and research technicians. Unfortunately, I couldn't afford the ~$80/month membership fee.
