Main Street Cleaners are the only dry cleaners in Northampton as far as I know. I took a few items there while I was in college. They always did a fine job removing stains for me. However, my friend took a white dress there and they said that they couldn't remove the stain because it had been sitting on the dress for a long time. Well, at least they were honest about it and didn't just take her money for doing nothing. The prices were o.k. considering that they had no competition in the immediate area.

Broadside Bookshop is one of several bookshops in Northampton. Broadside Bookshop has books, magazines, textbooks, and reading accessories. Broadside is a small store, but generally you will find what you are looking for. The staff are super friendly and willing to help you in any way they can. They only sell "new" books, but sometimes they have 'sales' on books that are not selling well.
A tip: Get the frequent shopper card. For every $10 you spend, you get a stamp on your card. Once you obtain 10 stamps, you get $10 credit for items in the store.

Faces is the central store for young students in Northampton. Faces sells household items, furniture, posters, clothes, gifts, cards, and accessories. A few of the items are overpriced, so you may find better deals in the local mall. But if you're short on time and need something like a gift urgently, then you may want to try Faces. Usually you'll find a lot of pre-pubescent and teenage students here.

I have gotten tickets to two shows through Bostix. Neither time did I have to camp out the night before or go ridiculously early in the morning. For both shows (Blue Man Group and Shear Madness), I bought the tickets on Saturday afternoon. Bostix is great if you are living in Boston and want to see a show, but don't want to splurge on the ticket. Bostix may not be a reliable source of getting tickets if you are just visiting for the day however. Take note that Bostix only accepts cash for same day shows and tickets are not refundable. You might want to visit the ATM before you go to Bostix.

The Museum of Science is a fun-filled educational trip. The demonstrations keep your attention and you usually walk away with a bit of knowledge. You can spend hours there and just absorb all the information around you. There are always a lot of children and families in the Museum of Science, so if that bothers you, you may want to visit the museum very early in the morning.
The Museum of Science is definitely worth the money.

The MFA is filled with art in several forms - pottery, paintings, clothing, furniture, and statues. The museum itself is a beautiful piece of architecture. The collections are wonderful and will take more than a full day to look at everything. This is a great place for family, friends, and dates.
Two tips: 1) The Museum of Fine Arts offers optional admission on Wednesdays after 4 PM. 2) The $15 adult admission fee pays for 2 trips within 30 days.

The ICA displays a lot of artwork from non-US artists. On Thursday evenings, the admission fee is optional, making it a great place to go if you are a poor student or young professional. The exhibits are "temporary", so if you know of an exhibit that you want to see at the ICA, then you better go see it as soon as possible! Since the exhibits are temporary, there is always something new on your next visit to the ICA. The gift shop is cute and has "unusual" items for sale.

The New England Aquarium is a great place to go for tourists and natives alike. Their hours are convenient, have short lines, are family-friendly, and serve a wealth of information to its visitors. No matter how many times you have been there, it's a guaranteed fun attraction! The best times to go are early in the day or late in the afternoon. Early afternoons are the worst times because of all the families and school-trips.

My experience at Sleep-A-Rama was very positive. The salesmen were friendly and not pushy. Sleep-A-Rama only sells bedroom furniture (i.e. beds, dressers, drawers, mirror, armoire, futons, etc.) and accessories (i.e. bedding and futon covers). The owner is the person that actually comes up to you and talks to you about the furniture. He is very personable.
I ended up purchasing a bed, dresser, mirror, and nightstand for approximately $1400, including delivery ($50). Their delivery is convenient because you can select which date you want the furniture delivered on.

Shabu-Zen does not specialize in sushi or teriyaki, like most Japanese restaurants. Instead, Shabu-Zen focuses on shabu-shabu, which is a style of Japanese cooking that involves you personally cooking your food in a pot of broth. You can pick from seafood, beef, veggies, etc. Your meal comes with a vegetable platter (that you also cook in the boiling broth) and dessert (an Asian bean dessert). The two problems with Shabu-Zen are 1)
you are usually seated right next to other people and 2) the steam from the boiling broth can be distracting and overwhelming for a calm, relaxed meal. However, shabu-shabu is fun, healthy, and inexpensive! Shabu-Zen also has a variety of Asian sakes and beers.
