Gina Nail is a great nail salon for your manicure and pedicure needs.
It's roomy, well staffed, and efficient. They keep the place clean and fresh looking. You won't feel queasy putting your foot in the foot soak.
They use good quality prodcuts that you'd use at home, if you only wanted to do your own nails. The color selection is vast.
They do massages, a ultra softening special aloe-vera pedicure, all body waxing [legs, arms, face, etc]
Appointments are not necessary, but recommended.

Clean and hygenic. They specialze in african-american hair.
It's a staff of four stylists, a washer, and a manager. They are licensed hair stylists up to date on trends. The stylists are flexible, and take the time to learn your needs and time restrictions. And they don't just cut and style, they teach you how to do it yourself.
It's not a very fancy place, really casual, a neighborhood salon. A grest place to become your new "regular", your "standing hair maintenence appointment"
Appointments are not necessary, but defiunitely recommended.

I gave my best friend a day at Serenity Day Spa and boy! was she happy.
The spa is located in an old mansion converted into the spa. Decorated in shades of soothing white, all services take place in private "bedrooms". Once you're in a room, it feels like there is absolutely no one else there. You do not run into their other clients in the hallways, ever.
They offer basic spa services, massages, facials manicures, pedicures, body treatments, hair removal .. and a few services for men [massage, facial, mani/pedi, no hair removal].
Prices are about what you'd expect. Great gift idea. There are restaurants and shops nearby if you want to make a day of it.
Closed on Sundays,

99 Cent Hut is more than just a dollar store.
They carry a lot of name brand items (not just the off brand stuff) and still somehow manage to sell it for a dollar. I'm not exactly sure how they can sell name brand home supplies like cleaning products, dishwashing liquid, toothpaste, lotions (Avon?!), deoderants, gift bags that look better than Hallmark, and even GAP tees (yes, they did have them, and I hurridly picked up a few; the back tag was sliced off, but if you own GAP stuff, you know what the tag and quality look like).
Service is good, they help you find things, instead to just telling you to look. The product turnover is high though, so if you see something you like, pick it up then!
I love the candle selection and the gift bags, ribbon, wrapping paper deals.

I've used three brothers auto repair for a few minor and major dents, scrapes and auto care needs. They are family owned and operated and work incredibly hard to make sure the job is done right. They have always quoted me a great rate (especially compared to my dealership) and they've serviced the car in a timely fashion. They've also advised me on cheaper alternative ways to fix a mirror ( i.e. going to junkyards). I highly recommend this place because I've found an honest mechanic in jersey city (something hard to do in any town)....

Clip joint used to be one of my favorite places to get a hair cut until they got really really busy. The place is in a mall and has 15 to 20 stylists working on any given weekend. Even though the stylists are friendly and competent, you can never get the same person you've had before unless you are willing to wait. They take unisex clients, are a full service salon and are clean and hygienic. No appointment necessery unless you want a specific person (extra charge).

I went into the dealership looking for a tug of war, a fight to the death (hopefully, my salesman). I was pleasantly surprised.
Like all new-car buyers, you go into a dealership armed with inforamtion and your mental "deal-breaker" price, at whcih you'll walk out. I never even got out of my chair.
My salesperson was polite, understanding, and did not try and sell me bells & whistles I did not need. He was truly "no pressure" [ I think it's even on his business card]. He was confident that he could give me the best price, and I walked out paying even less than I had been prepared to pay.

Sernios is conveniently located in the heart of Jersey City. They are also Liberty Mutual's preferred repair shop in Jersey City.
The large outfit can handle a larger volume, so your car won't be out for days. The work is guaranteed, if you find any flaws or mishaps, they'll take responsibility, as all honest repair shops should. Open minded quotes and the staff is easy to work with. They patiently explain everything and there are no financial surprises.
I got drop-off service. I took my car to Sernios and they dropped me off to work (staff allowing).
The claim was hassle free. I was not even involved in payment. The insurance company is directly billed and paid.

This is a fairly large outfit, and so they can handle a large volume. Your car will not be there for days and days. The quotes are free and there is no pressure. If you have a problem, you can return to them for free and they'll take responsibility for it.
Hassle free insurance claims are a blessing. Cabala makes it easy.

If you have a piece of quality furniture that needs a bit if R & R, or that you are just not ready to let go of, this is the poeple to see.
Generations of talented workers, the furniture business runs in their blood. They have a great selection of fabrics in all price ranges. The owner has a great eye and a wonderful attitude. He's kind, helpful, direct, an expert. They can come to your home, give you an estimate, pick-up, delivery. They specialize in vintage furniture refurbishment.
You paid a lot of hard-earned money for your furniture, so why just let it be curb-side pickins' if you can restore it to it's former glory, or just change it so that it fits your new decorating scheme.
I highly recommend this place. It's rare to see people who still work with their hands and have that kind of knowledge.
Warning: REAL furniture, not particleboard, not IKEA, not discount-store stuff. Don't waste good money refurbishing cheap stuff.
