Panda's Japan specialists can get you some good little mini unguided Japan tours for a good price that includes air, hotel and transfers (though not for all Japanese destinations). The first time I tried them, I was very impressed not by the price, but the length to which the agent would help me in securing tickets to a sumo event. Albeit, I decided to skip the sumo, she had called up someone in Japan and had a price for me and assured me that I would get the tickets at my hotel. If you go on solo trips, you might get a better deal getting hotel and air separately because of a single-supplement but it's still a good package. Oh yeah, and their website has some really good domestic airfare deals as well.

Other travel agents can get similar deals on airfare to Japan. Usually though, they get you seats on the JAL tour flights...it's a good airline, but for a change of pace, R&C can get you on the ANA flights. They also have good deals on hotels in Japan, featuring the Japan Hotel Pass brochure showing and listing the various hotels and the price you'll pay assuming there are rooms available. They are friendly and helpful, but not any more or less friendly than Panda so go with whatever you feel like. There is ample parking and their mini Statue of Liberty in front is hard to miss.

After seeing it on some TV show, I decided to try this out since I was in the area. Boy was that a big mistake. Being not familiar with the area, I had to circle around the huge block twice before I found this little place. When I finally got it, and tried it's famous strudel, I couldn't help but think what the big deal was. The filling in the apple and cranberry strudel was too tart, and it wasn't sweet enough despite the sprinking of powder sugar (needed a whole box of sugar). It was limp and had no crisp. Perhaps it's the authentic real deal, so I might just have bad taste but I'd never waste my time there again...I'd much rather go a few stores down and get some good chocolate cake at that chocolate-centered bakery I can't remember the name of.

Almost everything in here is good and makes me despise the lack of anything similar in Hawaii. They have a well-stocked deli full of italian-style meats and cheeses and a wide array of other delights. The italian grocery section has a good selection of imported pastas, oils, crackers, cookies, etc. Their sandwiches (of which they have many varieties of) and pizzas are totally awesome (best sandwich is the gaetano). They have a huge selection of freshly baked bread (most delectable are the chocolate and cinnamon brioche which are more pastry than bread). It's no wonder this place gets really busy..

The mochi here is some of the best you'll ever eat. Almost bursting with bean jam these fat confections look as good as they taste. Their orange gyuuhi (probably the best thing there) however, has no beans in it but has a slight orange taste (at least I think it does but it could just be the color deceiving me). Their ohagi (the smooth version) is good too, the mochi rice inside being very moist and just mushy enough). The lady at the counter can be kind of slow in getting the mochi in the box, but she wraps it in paper and ties the ribbon very fast. You can tell she's been doing that for a while.

The food here is quite flavorful. The enchiladas (beef, chicken, or pork) are the best thing here. Not using the usual red enchilada sauce, they instead use a tangy tomatillo sauce then drizzle it with a light amount sour cream. Most dishes come w/their red chips, a peppery salsa, rice, and beans. The chips can at times be less crispy and more hard but it's not as bad as their rice which has, a few times, been undercooked. Nothing worse than biting into what you think is fluffy soft rice, and instead getting the crunch of undercooked rice. It doesn't ruin the main dish, but it's not good either. They also have a good selection of margaritas and mexican beers...if you're 21.

It's hard to say what differentiates this place from the numerous other flower shops in the area because the prices and offerings are so similar. That being said, their flowers are fresh as are their lei (they have nice peonies sometimes if you want something more unusual than your standard roses, tulips, etc)...and they are cheap. I guess competition is good for us, the consumer. As with any business in this area, the traffic and parking can be bothersome.

If you need to rent a tux (or a few) for an event this place is pretty good. They have many styles to choose from and the very professional, helpful, and patient staff will help you every step of the way to get the look just right. When you finally go to pick up your rental, and try it on for the last time, they can make a quick replacement if, by chance, you may have expanded since your first fitting (don't ask me how I know :p). Finally, they will repress the shirt one last time before sending you off so you look your best.

We've used their services 3 times--to fix a fridge door, a leaky shower faucet, and a leaky toilet--and they are good, efficient, and very friendly. Regarding the faucet, they actually switched the directions of our hot and cold water handles because it wasn't as good the way it had been. Best thing is that they aren't as dirty as some other places, so there's no problem in letting them in your house. If you get the husband and wife team (who I believe are the owners) they tend to be faster than the single worker.

As the name implies, this store sells just look funn. They produce alot of it and the workers in the back can be seen constantly making it, and occasionally, you can see a worker carting some of it to the surrounding restaurants. I can't guarantee you can create the same dishes as the restaurants but you can buy some here and try yourself. They have 3 varieties all very cheap and less than a dollar per roll: plain, char siu and shrimp. The char siu is best when you take it home, heat it up for a little bit and dip it in mustard shoyu.
