Coming from New York, I would call D&D's more of a bodega than a convenience store, as they have a much wider selection than say a White Hen Pantry would have. They have nice bread, fresh fruit and deli sections as well as a huge liquor selection, although that's because of it's proximity to a university. The only drawback is that many of their prices are higher than a supermarket b/c the store is much smaller.

Bookman's Alley is located where one would think - in an alley. It's location is probably one of the worst parts about it - the alley it's located in is very dirty and dimly lit, and is even pretty scary as it gets dark. The store itself is very small. The selection of books is, for a lack of a better term, unique. It's a good place just to look around, but only once in a while.

Kilroy's has been a staple of Glen Rock for a long time, for a while being the only real supermarket in Glen Rock. Kilroy's has a great, although limited, selection of products. I personally like their fresh bread products a lot. Since the store is rather small, however, compared to the likes of a Shop Rite, I use this store only when I'm in a pinch. Prices here are also a bit more expensive than other places as it's a smaller store and more exclusive.

Rabson's Audio Video is a small independent audio/video store. It's taken a big hit in recent years since the coming of Best Buy, Circuit City, and the like have moved into the area. However, the store still has a very good selection of merchandise, and they are willing to negotiate on price sometimes. I can't give it a higher rating simply because they don't carry as wide a selection as some of the previously mentioned bigger stores, and they only sell certain merchandise.

Corde Cleaners is based in Ridgewood in the King's shopping area. While they have same day shirt service, and many other services available such as alterations, leather cleaning... what I like about them most is that a lot of their cleaning is done on the premises. This results in a much faster turn around time for their services as opposed to many of their competitors.

Steven Papageorge's salon is the only one I've found so far in Evanston that can really cut men's hair well. I've gone to a number of places in Evanston, but this one beats all that I've tried. With that being said, however, it's still not the best place I've been to. Depending on who your stylist is, you get different qualities of cuts, and the prices aren't exactly that great either. So while I do recommend this salon, I'm still looking for a great place in Evanston.

Seaside Heights Water Works is a great place to head after a day at the beach. Right next to the Seaside Heights beach, the Water Works is lots of fun. There are a lot of rides, including the traditional lazy river, although the park is a bit on the small side compared to others in the area. It's truly the best to go after spending a day at the beach and laying out in the sun - you can really cool off. But I don't recommend making a whole day trip just to the water-works - combine it with something else, as you might get tired of the park after a few hours.

Splish Splash is a great place to get wet on a hot day. Splish Splash is one of the largest water parks in the tri-state area, really only smaller than Mountain Creek & Hurricane Harbor in NJ. But what it misses in size, it makes up for in fun. The whole place is just always hopping, and it has its own unique feeling that sets it apart from most other waterparks in the area.

Hungarian has been around for a long time. While it has recently lost a lot of customers to the Jewel-Osco supermarket chain, it's still a great place to find a huge selection of kosher food for purchase. Anything from meats to cheeses, frozen food, condiments.... it's all here. They also have a terrific selection of food when Passover comes around. Only complaint is that their items are a bit expensive.

Van Saun Park is probably one of the best state parks in Bergen County. It has a ton of things a family, or even a couple, can do together. The main attraction is probably the zoo, where there are lots of animals to see, and depending on the season you may even see some alligators. There's an old-style train ride you can go on that encircles the buffalo den, and also goes into a pretend mine shaft. And as is expected of a park, there's tons of open space, and plenty of picnic tables to eat at. Note, however, that the main attractions aren't free - you must pay to get in.
