I love the Wright Life! They have a huge selection of frolf discs, awesome outdoor toys, skateboards, snowboards, and clothes. I got a juggling ball that I love and that was really inexpensive - I haven't found one for cheaper anywhere else. They also have boomerangs. This is a really great store for inexpensive, unusual gifts. The staff is really helpful and they have a website that you can check out right now at http://wrightlife.com/site/store/

Kings is so much fun to shop at. You can find lots of cheap candy, snow gear, a huge play land, some electronics, cards and office supplies, yarn and lots of miscellaneous items. It's also a great place to get tomato cages and pool toys in the summer. They have really low prices at kings. When we went there recently we got a ton of help from an awesome, incredibly nice worker. It's never busy here and it's a very pleasant shopping experience.

Norda's is a small store that has coats, boots, and ski and snowboarding equipment. All of the people that worked there were really nice and not too pushy - they'd help if you needed it, but they'd leave you alone to let you look too. They have really big sales right now because they are closing. They had a lot of clearance coats (including Spyder) that had discounts of 30 to I think 60% off. There's not a huge selection left and some of the coats look a little strange, but you might be able to find a great deal right now.

When I went into the Sportsman I got a ton of help and attention. The person that worked there spent a lot of time educating me on different types of coats - no other store in town has offered to help when I've been looking for coats. They have really cool brands that aren't anywhere else in town (like Isis). They also rent skis and snowshoes. The prices on some of the same exact items were a bit higher than what you can find at Garts, but they are not unreasonable. It's fun to shop at this store.

If you're from Utah, you've undoubtedly heard of Deseret Industries, a thrift store run by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is also a job training program to help individuals (often who may have trouble finding employment) learn skills to get permanent jobs elsewhere (so employee turn over rates are high). The Ogden D.I. is maybe the best in northern Utah and Southern Idaho. Bigger than Preston's, Logan's and Brigham City's D.I., it has a huge selection. The merchandise is continually changing and it seems to be cheaper than the other D. I.’s. It is relatively clean and bright as far as thrift stores go. You'll find just about anything at this store and I bet you'll find at least one treasure per visit. If you only stop at one D.I., go to this one.

Rock 'n' Robin's always feels like a party inside, just like the mural outside on the building would indicate. There is usually a dog walking about, a lot of people inside and loud music. They sell things like giant posters (like maybe showing the album cover of the Dark Side of the Moon), tobacco supplies, records, incense, hippie style clothing, bags, and hats. The staff is helpful. This place has a ton of atmosphere and it's a fun stop during your downtown shopping.

The Usana Amphitheatre is a bigger music venue for more well-known artists. It is away from businesses and people so the stars are bright and the mountains around it a re pretty at sunset. They have expensive pizza, other foods, drinks, and acohol inside, clean bathrooms, and both seats and a grass area. The seats and the grass seamed about the same to me. Unless you sit in the front section, you are not going to see the performer's face well and you are not going to interact much. The chances that you will meet the performers here are pretty slim.

Lo-Fi is a music venue in downtown Salt Lake City. It is for all ages. It can get pretty hot inside. There is no central air (or at least they don't turn it on) - just a couple of wimpy fans. The band looked absolutely miserable and talked about how it was the hottest venue they've played. Nobody wanted to move at all because it was so stifling. Plus, they wouldn't let you leave and come back in. It is an intimate venue though, and I was able to talk to the band after the show. It is easy to see the band from any part of the room and the shows are inexpensive.

Kilby court is an awesome little music venue. It is really, really small (the band plays in a little storage building that is maybe the size of a living room) and it is always hot(!) and crowded. Unless you get in the front or stand on something you won't be able to see the band because they stand on a very small platform. Outside the storage building there is a really pleasant courtyard that you can sit in and still hear the band. It is really intimate and I've always been able to talk with the band afterwards. Kilby court is the best venue in Salt Lake City.

Graywhale CD Exchange is in a small store located to the east of the Old Navy/Pet Smart shopping area. They sell new and used CDs, posters, games, movies, and game accessories. You can get some really great prices on their used items and they’ll let you listen to the used CDs before you buy. They’ll give you OK deals if you want to sell your old CDs – it’s where my friends prefer to sell their old CDs (I like to keep mine).
