Quality local productions 8/7/2005

The Langhorne Players produce about 5 plays per year ranging from Spring to early Fall at the Spring Garden Mill across from Tyler State Park in Newtown. I was impressed the first time I saw a play here as the production quality and acting were much better than I expected. I am not sure how popular the productions are, but the small, 80-person theater was virtually full on that Friday night. This group produces mostly straight plays (few musicals as there is no band) most of which were written in the past few years and are not well-known. Such selections provide an opportunity to observe plays that would otherwise be difficult to find. It is easy to tell that everyone from the actors to the producers and stage designers work very hard to produce high-quality productions in a space that is unforunately barely adequate for theater. It is so small that there are only 5 or 6 rows of seats with little leg room, but everyone is close to the stage. It is worth seeing at least 1 play here especially with the reasonable ticket prices (around $10) and they have a website (www.langhorneplayers.org) that gives more information about their season. more
