Comfortable, quaint, and convenient 8/7/2005

Ten years ago, I would have written a review complaining about this theater's lack of Air Conditioning, poor sound quality, and some maintenance/cleanliness issues. By and large, those problems as well as the theatre's overall presentation have improved dramatically thanks to a fundraising campaign that culminated with the local premiere of the movie "Signs" (shot in Doylestown and Newtown, PA). Originally built in the late 1800s and damaged near the turn of the 10th Century by fire, the Newtown Theatre was built originally for staged performances. Now a single-screen theatre, the venue appeals to all age levels with movie selections ranging all the way from G to R and new releases rotated in about once every two weeks. The balcony provides unique seating you cannot find in most other theatres. Ticket prices are average and they don't accept credit cards, but since there are about 350 seats and no advance ticket sales there is almost no chance of any movie selling out. There is no dedicated parking lot but adequate on-street parking is available. Concession items are available and the popcorn is actually pretty decent. more
