Everyone should have a couple plants around their home. If you don't have any yet, it's worth the short hike to Shrewsbury to visit the Shrewsbury Nurseries. They have a great selection and the workers there are very knowledgeable and will tell you all you need to know to take care of your new plant. They also do landscaping if you happen to have land to scape (which I don't). Seriously, though, do yourself a favor and stop by.

I'd better admit I'm the kind that usually can't justify keeping a club membership for very long stretches, but when I do cave I usually make Worcester Fitness my choice. They have all the standard equipment and trainers available. Best thing is their two locations around town, so no matter where you are you're unlikely to have an excuse not to stop in. Membership fees are average, I guess, sometimes they have promotions on, so give them a call. I think they still give a free trial day if you want to look around first.

Shack's is probably the best men's clothing store in Worcester. They have some suits and ties and shirts and pants and shorts, everything you'd expect, really. They can even get things tailored for you if they don't quite fit. A wide range of products in all price ranges makes this my first stop when I need something new.

Bhadon makes some nice gift baskets for all your 'thank you's and 'congratulations.' They have a wide range of baskets to choose from, as well as fillings, from fruits, to coffees, to nice containers of all kinds. They also stock lots of detailed pottery pieces and glass sculptures and the like. Everyone loves giving gifts, and these guys are sure to give you lots of ideas, if only making picking something harder ;) Prices aren't too bad.

Barrows is usually the place I go for my hardware needs. They probably have all the hammers, nails, and power tools you'd need, and can also order out for stuff. They also stock paint and brushes, and even some random odds and ends like lights and plungers. Real friendly place (the independent stores usually seem to be more so than others, to me), and knowledgeable, too, if you have any questions. Good prices.

The EcoTarium is great. They have a ton of animals inside, and do regular, very educational presentations for all ages. Most if not all of their employees are very ecologically conscious, and do a lot of work helping the animals and environment around Worcester. Stop by and see some cute animals and maybe even learn how you can help out. There's a planetarium there, too, and even some nature trails (in Worcester, who would have thought!), and is just an all around wondrous place. Adults are $8, children and seniors are $6. Parking's free.

If you're moving into the city...or really no matter where you live...you should probably get a bike. I lot more useful than a car, in my opinion. And great for just exercising on, too. Anyway, when I last went shopping for a bike, Bicycle Alley was the best shop I found in Worcester. They know their bikes, gave me some good upkeep tips, and set me up with a good bike and a decent price. They do bike repairs, too, if you need some.

Whenever I need a new battery for my watch I take it to Sharfmans Jewelers. They do a good job and their prices aren't bad. They also have a fair selection of watches, and other jewelry. The sales people there don't seem very pushy like you might find in other jewelry stores, though I've admittedly not actually went shopping for any of their more expensive stuff. Still, a fine place.

I usually find it cheaper to shop online for upgrades and do repairs myself, but if you need some help, these guys seem to know their stuff. I find that local shops are best for browsing parts in person or asking questions, or picking up little things like fans and pastes (or big things like cases) that would be too much after shipping online. They also do some web design stuff and home networking, if you're looking for someone to help set that up.

I take part in a little city-based amatuer softball league, and some of us are not in great shape or youth, and sometimes people get hurt. Usually just pulled muscles or twisted somethings. But when the pain stays around, we usually bring the injured or recommend they visit Duca Chiropractic. He's close by, used to be a hockey player himself, and specializes in sports injuries. He'll even do the initial exam for free and discuss what he thinks you should do. Keeps our team full.
