I'll tell you, this is an excellent addition to the world of Ballardia. They have a perfect menu for a quick bite, plus a balanced cocktail or good draft. Try the Russian dumplings or the Crawfish cakes---wow. Sit outside or inside, doesn't matter cause when it's warm, the doors to this old service station are open and you are out there in the air. The atmosphere with chalkboard tabletops, good music, etc I'm going back...often. I give the service an "A" as our table always had water, our drinks were quickly refilled, and the dishes were fast. Give these guys your business---they deserve it.

I'm sorry, but normally I wouldn't bag on a restaurant like this, but Le Pichet is trying too hard to typify the poor-service, aloof Parisian cafe etiquette. I spent 3+ years in Europe and a fair amount of time in France, and all I could do was laugh. Let's see if we can charge you for overpriced french cafe food and scoff that you can't read the menu and actually have the nerve to ask for a translation. Sorry lady, ne pas être ridicule, vous êtes américain! Did I write that correctly? The place is packed though, because the atmopshere is spot-on and it really is quite charming. Just lose the attitude.
Yep. Just did it. Wrote a bad review. Food C+, Service D-.

This store reminds me a lot of what I used to see living in Belgium--small boutique shops that carried well made, built to last, quality toys from small companies (and larger ones). And lots of toys made from wood! Not all that cheap plastic stuff that ends up in landfills---these are the types of toys your kids will pass on to their kids. The prices are definitely higher than other shops, but honestly, the selection and quality makes it worth it.

We've been going to Zeeks for years, but I'm starting to see the quality go down on several fronts. They seem to be pinching the pennies a bit....cutting back on the toppings, no more free breadsticks before 6, service is waning...hum, what's up Zeeks? To be fair, the pizza is still good and the service is solid, but it used to be stellar, and that's what will bring them back every time. In fact it used to packed every time we would go there, and the past few times it was ony a 3rd full on nights where it would normally be completely full.....maybe its time to bring back the sticks before 6 and throw a few more olives and pieces of pepperoni on the old pie, eh?

Bottom line, Karma Coffee has the right title---it's a great, locally owned business that emits good vibes. I specifically go there whenever I can on my way to work, not only because it is convenient, but they have they be the friendliest and most good spirited baristas on the planet---seriously, baristas can sometimes be a squirelley bunch, and finding a good one that can pull a good shot, has an awesome personality and helps build community at the place is a solid find. All the staff over the years have been spot on, and it's downright refreshing. The decor isn't super homey (i.e. you won't spend a bunch of time there), but it's perfect for a quick morning stop over. Check out Karma after you visit the ballard locks or the climbing gym---it's right around the corner.

This is the best video store around (Sunset Hill location on 32nd and 65th) and what's also cool about it is that the neighborhood completely supports it and the business is rockin'. I have a friend that uses netflix and says it's easier than walking the 3 blocks to Rain City, but my argument with him is that he's missing the point of video rental---perusing the shelves, checking out all the different sections and titles you haven't seen for awhile, getting recommendations from the awesome staff, seeing people from the neighborhood, is just plain fun---and supporting a local business! After you're done, get a scoop of ice cream next door at Walters and get caught up on all the goings on in the hood.

The best sushi chefs go to school to learn how to choose the right fish, prepare the fish and serve sushi as part cuisine, part art. Do you think there is a buffet style sushi class at any of these culinary schools? Think about it. I went to Todai for the first time out of complete hunger and then realized what I was eating, promptly left and will never come back. The staff was very friendly and responsive, but the sushi was just plain foul---one roll was dry, my spicy tuna roll was warm (I think it had been sitting awhile) and some of the nigiri pieces, well, I couldn't even try them after the spicy tuna. I guess that's what you get down at the buffet, but Blue C does a better job--at least the food doesn't get touched and sneezed on by other patrons, though I am still going to stick with Chiso in Fremont Wasabi Bistro in Belltown, and Sam's in Ballard.
BTW--it's a great concept, but this is not what sushi is all about.

Velouria in Ballard is a great alternative to Olivine, where clothes are unique and well made, but overpriced. Velouria has put together a solid offering of lines from local and northwest designers, supporting their craft and also providing shoppers with equally superior clothes and accessories, at a much more affordable price. The great part about Veloruia is that you'll be wearing pieces that are sometimes one of a kind, or limited run. Why is a guy reviewing this store? Well, ever try shopping for your wife's birthday and finding that you don't know what you're looking for and the cost for one blazer is $600 at other boutiques? The owner and staff at Velouria are so helpful and welcoming and really work with your budget and with simple folk like me. That's nice and that's cool.

I've never had a bad dinner at the Stumbling goat. The sign of a good restaurant is one that has a minimalist menu, keeps it fresh, rotates the specials and has a b+ to a+ wine list. The goat knows what its good at and sticks to it. Just had an amazing desert there--sauted, brandy soaked peaches with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. They recently added outdoor seating which is definitely a plus! Me likey!

There are a lot of italian restaurants in Seattle, but many have lost the true meaning of the "italian kitchen"
. I highly recommend this restaurant for a good meal, where you know the recipes are genuine, the ingredients are fresh and the kitchen is authentic. The family that owns this place is the real deal. It's been around for a long time, so treat yourself again, or try it for the first time.
