Rudi's recently changed owners (a week ago) and the new owner - a wonderful woman named Lordes - is working super hard to restore Rudi's lustre. Rudi has been around for 30 years, and - while we've lived in Boulder for 10 years - we'd never eaten here. It's tucked away in a shopping center near Table Mesa and 36 in a cute office / house-like building. It's a little tired feeling, but comfy. The food was outstanding tonight - great selection, fresh, and "worldly" (I had Indian, Amy had curry, Maureen had chicken something, and Dave had lamb medallions.)
The portions were good sized, but not overwhelming. We had enough room for dessert and managed to scarf down a toffee mouse cake thing. Yum.

I love ice cream. After a great pizza at Pazzo's, Amy and I went hunting for Marble Slab, which we had been told was nearby. Five miles down Route 6 and we found it. I grew up near a Marble Slab in Dallas and - while I like all kinds of ice cream, Marble Slab has a special spot in my heart. Tonight's ice cream didn't disappoint - even though the chocolate peanut butter was really chocolate mint, I went after the double dark chocolate with M&Ms. Yum.

Pazzo's is well known in Beaver Creek and Aspen as some of the world's best pizza. It's always crowded and chaotic - kind of like a symphony of pizza. Get a started - cheese sticks and a salad - just to tide you over for the inevitable 30 minute wait. But - it's completely worth it. If you are two people, go for an 18" so you can have pizza for breakfast. Two people; $40; excellent pizza. Priceless.

Amy and I had a quick lunch in The Lobby Bar today. It's very good. The Ritz decor is traditional Colorado mountain - very comfy and warm. They've got a huge tv that was tuned to the Olympics - we got to watch the biathalon as we at lunch (what a weird but somehow appealing event). Lunch was simple - Hot Wings for Amy, a Veggie Salad for me, and we then shared the mac and cheese (which was absolutely divine). Overall - a very good lunch, but expensive ($52 before tip).

Masato's is consistently excellent. We usually order it delivered from A La Car (www.alacarvail.com). We had a nine person sushi orgy at our condo in Beaver Creek tonight. We ordered the food at 5:30 - it arrived around 6:45. The order was perfect - so both A La Car and Masato did their job well. We didn't order anything particularly "challenging" - edamame, spring rolls, miso, veggie tempura, a variety of sushi, and some rolls. All was good - a little pricy with the delivery charge ($350) but not outrageous. If you crave sushi after a long day on the slopes, Masato won't disappoint you.

Yum. As an appetizer, definitely get the cheese fries. Actually, that's enough for your entire meal. If you are a vegetarian like me, you can definitely get veggie cheese fries. Awesome. The rest of the food is very good - lots of exotic mountain fair (game, weird but good combos). The only downside is that Remington's is a little pricey - $65 for two for lunch. But - if you don't care about price (if you did, you probably wouldn't be hanging out at the Ritz Carlton) - this is definitely worth a mid-ski lunch.

We love Avage. If you want a casual, excellent, and reasonably priced Mexican dinner, this is the place. There's usually no wait during the week (we got seated right away at 7:30 on a Wednesday night.) You immediately get some warm homemade tortillas that are excellent. They sometimes get backed up on making them so you should ask for more right away as your first batch with disappear in 30 seconds. Dinner is usually moderately paced so get an appetizer so you can stretch it out a little. The food is fresh, tasty, always nicely prepared, mildly spicy, and yummy. Our waiter tonight was Gene - he was a riot (superfriendly, totally tuned into me and Amy who were having a deep conversation, and - when he realized that I was downing a glass of water every five minutes, showed up with three full glasses and plunked them down, much to everyone's amusement.)
Good stuff - definitely worth checking out.

Super Joe is a fantastic coffee shop in Superior. It's tucked in a building next to Superior Liquors and Old Chicago Pizza across from the Superior Ice Rink. It's run by a delightful young couple (Chris and Wendy). The coffee is superb and the selection of food and specialty drinks is great. Everything is reasonably priced, fast service, clean, friendly - overall - just super!

Maybe I'm just burned out on the Village Tavern - I've gone there lots of time as my "default business meal." I went with Jason and Chris last night. The potato chip appetizer was great (and fattening) as usual - everything else was average at best.
I had a caeser salad and a margherita pizza - the salad was fine; the pizza was crummy.
The atmosphere was good and the waiter was nice - he was just suffering under the weight of crummy food. I'll definitely go back to the Village Tavern, but I'll be getting something else to eat.

We went with our friends Brian and Claire yesterday. While the food we ordered (from our ticket) sounds "typical", it was - as always - delicious. Here's the score.
3 Chai's, Orange Juice, Daily Muffin (raspberry and chocolate - OMG), ham omelet, greek scramble with an egg, crabcake eggs benedict (OMG 2), huevos (what I always get), and a side of homefries. It's reasonable priced ($65 for four people) and just incredible food. Yum.
