Old Sante Fe is in an old Ruby Tuesday building so it feels very chain like, but the food is great, the service is fast, the menu is extensive, and it's dirt cheap. From sitting down to food is about 10 minutes. The portions are large, but not excruciating (e.g. tons of waste). It's TexMex so who knows what "authentic" means in this context, but it's very tasty. $25 for dinner for two.

Amy and I hadn't been to Bacaro in a while. We showed up at 6pm on a beautiful Boulder evening. The outside area was full, so we grabbed a seat near the window. We were early enough to hit happy hour (which ended at 6:30) - great prices on tapas like Italian / Med food. Just order a bunch off of the happy hour menu and finish it off with a margherita pizza - there's no need for a full meal.

We feast on Falafel King hummus at home via our friends at Whole Foods. Every now and then I need a taste of where it all started and I wander down Pearl Street. The 4x6 lunch is the best - four side salads, a green salad, and six falafel balls. The sides are normal greek / med faire - hummus (several different varieties), grape leaves, tabouli, and baba ganoush. The service is lightening fast (in and out in 60 seconds), the food is fresh, and the garlic lingers all afternoon.

While I was waiting, I ordered a cranberry juice and a California Roll. It came quickly - the California Roll was superb.
Cliff showed up and we ordered - I got a veggie burger, steak fries, and a side of brocolli. The portions were huge - almost too much (probably an entire avocado on my veggie burger.) While the food was definitely "ordinary", it was tasty, well prepared and served quickly.
$45 for the two of us seemed very reasonable.

I had a good meal with the Judy's Book gang (Andy and Chris - co-founders, Rich and Chris - co-investors) tonight. We were seated by the front door so it was a little hard to dig the ambience.
The food was good. It's - not surprisingly - a very seafood heavy menu, although there are a few good veggie and non-seafood dishes. I had a plate of side orders (beets, spinach, and cornbread pudding) - all good.
The service was great - our waitress replaced a salad for me that didn't look quite right when it came out. She was friendly throughout dinner, didn't interrupt us, but was around when we needed something.
Overall - a good, solid meal.

Highlands - the new "hot" part of Denver - is way too cool for me. However, I managed to sneak past the cool police with a friend on Friday night. We went for drinks / dessert just to check out the scene - a friend of a friend had recommended it. From the outside, Swimclub 32 seems like wine bar type place, but they have a great menu, full drink selection, and plenty of desserts. The place was packed (we got there around 8:30) so we sat at the bar. The service was great, the scene was fun, and everyone was much hipper and more beautiful than we were.

I went to Zengo with a friend early Friday night before a Nuggets game. We were two of the first people there - by the time we left, the place was packed. The food - an asian / mexican fusion thing - was great. We started with Ahi Tacos, had crispy tofu as a main dish, along with sides of plantines and rice / beans. Service was good - our waitress reminded us of a young June Cleaver, but with some serious tatoos. Overall, a good, reasonably priced pre-game meal.

The Flagstaff House is the long time Boulder "super premium" restaurant. On any given night, you'll see an engagement, anniversaries, birthdays, high school kids dressing up, or a business celebration.
Amy and I took an out of town couple (foodies from the bay area) tonight. They loved it - which is always a ringing endorsement. The huge and ever changing menu was a delight to work through. We had a three course meal, but by the end were completely stuffed. You can't go to Flagstaff without doing the liquid varona chocolate cake - mmmm.
While I don't drink, Flagstaff has one of the best wine lists in town. Their mixed drinks are also fun, clever, and - according to Amy - potent.
The service is outstanding. They try hard - but not too hard - and is pays off. It's extremely comfortable, the pacing is always good, and the waitstaff adjusts for the setting nicely (e.g. they behave differently if it's a business meal vs. a romantic dinner.)
Finally, the view of Boulder from the Flagstaff is as good as it gets. A+

Amy and I took my folks to 1515 on Saturday night. We showed up at 6pm. The bar was empty. The upstairs - where the restaurant is - was about half full and dominated by a big party. The big party came in just before us so the service was a little erratic (pacing was off), but it was understandable.
The food was excellent. It was typical "fancy American cuisine", but fun flavors with great sides. I had a vegetable dish - always a good test of a chef - and he delivered nicely. The chocolate mousse dessert was outstanding.
So - food=very good. service=ok. However, at 8pm we were the last people in the restaurant. There appeared to be no second seating and - as we left - Amy commented that this feels like a place that won't last that much longer. If that's the case, it's too bad - the food is very good.
