You know you've scored when the sushi place is in a strip mall. We walked through the imposing door into a dark, expansive, disheveled, but clean restaurant. Dark wood everywhere. Big sushi bar in the middle. Grumpy but older / experienced sushi chef in the middle of his big bar. Two overly busy waitresss scurried around. We sat in the back - had a cozy and quiet meal - that was excellent. The sushi was fresh and prepared with care. The kitchen food was excellent. The service was a little spotty, but we found out later that the owner was short staffed because she didn't expect Sunday night to be busy. Highly recommended.

We had dinner last night at Geronimo - it was spectacular. We hadn't eaten there in five years, but remembered it fondly and had high expectations for it. It lived up to them. The restaurant was super comfy, the service was A+, and the food was great. The menu was complex and fascinating and they let us mix and match at will. I'm about to run a marathon so I'm eating carefully - they did a custom veggie plate for me. Dessert was awesome - a shot of chocolate and a piece of chocolate cake (no - I didn't eat it myself - we shared.) It was an almost perfect three hour meal with the backdrop of Santa Fe.

This is the best brunch in Santa Fe - maybe the best brunch in the southwest United States. Pasqual's is a small, cozy, local feeling place. The menu is extensive and the food is outstanding. Heuvos Rancheros - my breakfast standard - has never tasted so good. They can make it mild to spicy - if you've got courage - go spicy. The wait can be long (over an hour) so get your name in early and then wander around downtown Santa Fe.

Amy and I had lunch here on Saturday. It was right in the middle of the action and - while not super busy, also wasn't empty. The waitress was great, but the food options were limited. Amy had a big cheeseburger that looked good, although the fries were cold. I had a caeser salad that was mostly lettuce and parmasian cheese. We shared the shrimp spring rolls, which were ok. Overall - mediocre.

The Homestead is on par with Cups and Lands End. It's a comfortable, spacious place about eight miles out on East End Road. The owners are delightful and make you feel at home. It's always moderately busy, so reservations are suggested, although they have a nice bar and plenty of walk in space during the week. The food is excellent and changes regularly, although there are a few mainstay dishes. The views are spectacular - try to get a seat facing out over Kachemak Bay.

We love Broadwalk Fish & Chips. Halfway down the Homer Spit on the right, this is the classic deep fried halibut (and other fish) place. It's totally casual, quick, and inexpensive ($40 for two people.) The food is fried, and fried, and fried. Don't forget to start with a clam chowder bread bowl. Yum.

Megan Gray - a licensed and certified massage therapist - gives the absolute best massages we've had in Alaska. Megan is a delightful person, can sense your mood immediately, has a great little massage studio, and is incredibly attentive. Amy and I have gotten massages all over the world - Megan is in the top few people we've had work on us.

We've been to El Pescador a couple of times. The restaurant itself is uninspiring (think old Denny's furniture), but the view overlooking Homer Harbor is fantastic. The food is consistently good - mexican / seafood mix - always fresh, good portions, and very tasty. It's not at the very top of the list if you are only in Homer for a few days, but if you find yourself looking for something other than "the top three" it's definitely worth a meal.

We've been to Halibut Cove a number of times and always stop in the Halibut Cove Experience. It's a gallery on the Halibut Cove boardwalk about three minutes from the Saltry Restaurant. While the Saltry is the destination of a Halibut Cover trip, there are two seatings for dinner so you have some time to wander around and explore part of Halibut Cove.
The gallery is nice. It's a little on the small side, but has always has a current collection of the Halibut Cover artists. The art generally doesn't ring my bell, but the people are nice and it's an easy way to kill 15 minutes during the 90 minute wait before or after your dinner at the Saltry.

Fireweed is next door to Ptarmigan Arts. It's very different, but has a similar overall feel and quality. The art is ok - not cutting edge - and lots of local nature / photography. There's some funky jewelry and lots of local stuff - so it's worth a stop as you are doing the local artist scene.
