Amy and I had 30 minutes to grab lunch. We wandered across the street on Collins to Cafe Des Arts which we've noticed every time we wander down Collins. We started indoors but were overwhelmed by the smell of recently washed floors. So - we sat outside.
The restaurant is comfy - classic street side dining - and the service was fast. Lunch is served until 2pm - Amy had breakfast (pancakes) and I had penne and red sauce (I was hoping for pizza, but they were "out of pizza' today.) The food was fine but nothing special.

I ran the Miami Marathon this morning. I'd had enough Italian food to last me for a while, so I decided to do some Japanese. Sushi Rock Cafe is around the corner from our apartment and I'd walked by it a bunch of times.
We had a great meal. All the standard Japanese fare (edamame, miso, agedashi tofu), some great veggie spring rolls, a few pieces of sushi, and veggie soba noodles with vegetable tempura.
Fun scene, great sushi, quick service, and relatively inexpensive.

Amy and I had 45 minutes before our movie. We hustled into Balans and had a quick meal. We shared the hummus platter and then I had an Indonesian noodle bowl. It was ok - nothing special. The service was good, friendly, and quick, the restaurant was comfortable, although the TV / bar thing was annoying. Overall, it was fine, but nothing special.

We at at Hosteria Romana 2 last night (in Sout Beach on Ocean around 13th - I didn't have the actual address). I'm running the Miami Marathon on Sunday so I was looking for the idea Saturday evening pre-marathon food. This was it - absolutely perfect northern Italian food.
The food was spectacular and perfect carbo loading, the service was great, and the setting / scenery is very nice.

I love chocolate gelato (or chocolate ice cream) after a big sushi dinner. Tonight, we ate at Bond Street and finished it off with dark chocolate gelato at Bacio as we headed back to our apartment. It's conveniently located on Collins and 16th, is brightly lit, clean, and super tasty. Good stuff.

Amy and I have been to Bond Street in Manhattan and loved it. We decided to give the one in South Beach a chance.
The restaurant is hard to find - you've got to track up to 20th Street on Collins - all the way at the end of the South Beach strip. You take a right on 20th and then duck into the first building and go down the stairs to the basement. The restaurant is dark - just like the NY one - but colorful (blue / orange / yellow walls).
We showed up at 7pm - unfashionably early. We were the only people in the restaurant and got quick service. We ended up with a table in the back in some hugely comfortably chairs.
The food - like the NY Bond Street - was superb. It was very similar - standard sushi surrounded by some funky stuff, a good selection of spicy / creative Japanese appetizers (hot and cold), and a nice drink menu.
Excellent service, great food, hip scene. By the time we left, the place was filling up nicely.

The Delano is rumored to be one of Madonna's hang out spots and it shows. I think it's actually a Philippe Stark hotel - is very sleek - and is definitely a place where the beautiful people (e.g. not me) hang out.
The restaurant is pleasant - you travel through the extensive and stunning lobby to get there. Once seated, you are bathed in white everything, including a garish white chandelier.
The food is good - but not out of this world - which is a little disappointing. It's on the low end of pricey, so it you are price sensitive, there are better choices in South Beach. But - if you like a nice high end meal, in a super hip setting, surrounded by very attractive people, go for it.

Since my office is 200 yards away from the best Wild Oats in the world (the Superior, CO store), it's easy to be critical of other stores. While we are thankful there's at least a Wild Oats near South Beach, this store is pretty marginal.
As far as grocery stores go, this one is as good as any. However, the produce was surprisingly average, the store was sloppy and somewhat disorganized, and the staff in the store was not terribly helpful.
We have plenty of fresh tasty food, but the experience was really average.

Wish was great. Ilana, Warren, and I went there for dinner tonight. It's at the far end of the South Beach strip (8th Street) so it's a little more subdued then the stuff between 10th and 13th. The setting is nice - outside in the courtyard of a hotel, under nice umbrella type covering (so you can see the sky but have some cover), not too crowded, and comfortable.
Service was great - our waiter was very attentive, quick, and happy. We started with a good fresh bread plate (the raisin bread was superb), followed by salad (I had blue cheese, walnut, and apple; Warren had crab). They had a special veggie main dish - five of the sides - I ended up with carrots, snap peas, potatoes, pumpkin waffle, and mushroom rice.
Ilana had the only dessert - she went for the apple tart which had prailine ice cream.
Overall - a great meal.

I love chocolate ice cream. In fact, I'm a complete chocolate addict. I've been to the South Beach Ghiradrdelli Chocolate joint a few times. The first two times, I went with my dad and had a great time (after our Jerry's Deli jewish food orgies.) The third time I went with my wife Amy and it was profoundly average. Today I went with my friends Warren and Ilana and had a horrible time.
As we entered the store, we noticed that it was crowded and there were no seats, although the seats upstairs were empty. We headed for the upstairs and then saw that it was cordoned off and closed - presumably because there wasn't enough staff in the store. So - we decided to order to go. We ordered quickly in the take out line (no wait) and then settled in for a 30 minute wait for a cup of coffee and two frozen mocha coffee drinks. I got a seat at the counter and watched absolute chaos ensue as the four people tried to crank out ice cream desserts for the surley crowd. There was little patience - about every two minutes one of the customers started yelling at the ice cream producers.
The main issue was the ice cream producers had absolutely no process. They were constantly doing one off ice cream ordered, bumping into each other, running over each other, running out of stuff, screwing up orders, and generally being miserable.
I sent Ilana and Warren to wander around with the assurance that I'd call them when our drinks were done. 15 minutes later, I was almost rolling on the floor in tears for these poor people that were have an awful experience trying to produce ice cream treats.
Pass on this one - go to Starbucks.
