I went to Katz's with a few friends on a typical Saturday evening.
Ordered some sandwich with salmon steak. It was incredible.
Katz's serves great New York deli foods and some. I've spent some time in New York and this isn't an imposter.
The owner was there that night and he's a very friendly guy, going table to table and asking how people are doing. He's a local celebrity in Austin. The latest issue he's facing is some bankruptcy case.
Anyhow, that hasn't been affecting the quality of food. If you want a casual-upscale place to take some friends, I'd recommend this place. Its open all the time, has a great athmosphere too.
It's a little pricey for students, but it is downtown Austin afterall and the food is definitely worth it.
