I Coppi is one of those nice Italian restaurants with solid food and good service.
It's located in the East Village (near NYU) and is a great date place. It's a great place for a first date because the ambience is casual but nice, not loud and has a garden in the back room.
It exudes romance without being cheesy.
The owners are nice but they don't fawn over you like the Little Italy places tend to do.
You're left alone to enjoy your dishes and each other's company.
My only complaint is that the tables are too close together and once, my date and I felt like we were on a date with the couple next to us because they were so close and eavesdropping on our conversation.
Otherwise, this is a good place - not too expensive and a decent wine list.

The restaurant itself is pretty with a lovely tiled wall near the bar downstairs but a kind of stiff and blah-looking dining room upstairs.
The only highlight of my dinner was the homemade guacamole which is made tableside. It was fresh and seasoned well. My only complaint? It was too small a portion for the price.
The other offerings on the menu were also overpriced and not that good. I don't understand why everyone is raving about this place.
Yes, the proximity to Lincoln Center is ideal and there is a lack of good restaurants in this 'hood but Rosa sadly is not one of them.
The margaritas are good (especially the pomegranite one) but you guessed it, expensive.
Don't waste your money here and go elsewhere.

Nobu is located in Tirbeca, near the southern tip of Manhattan. It's on a busy street with other stores and shops nearby but usually this area is pretty desolate especially on the weekends.
The dishes at Nobu are legendary and often copied; but none are as good as the original. Must haves include: the yellowtail sashimi with jalapeno, the rock shrimp tempura (you must order it with the creamy spicy sauce), the black cod with miso (so good it melts in your mouth), the lobster salad (pricy but worth it) and the bento box for dessert - choclate molten cake - yum.
You're almost guaranteed a long wait so you can try Next door nobu too (same food, more casual and younger crowd). Don't be surprised to see a celebrity or two; the Olsen twins love this place.

I love this place! Tomoe has the freshest, tastiest and cheapest sushi in Manhattan!
Tomoe is located in the West Village near Houston Street (and Soho) and right next door to Mario Batali's Lupa.
The food is remarkably good for such a bare bone establishment. The toro is mouth-watering and like butter and a fraction of the cost of Nobu and other high-quality sushi places.
I'd give it a perfect rating except the place is tiny and the waits can be very long with people lined up outside for hours. Also, the waiters (especially the women) can be kind of surly and rude. But it's worth it to dine here.
My tip? You must arrive before 6:30 (that means your entire party because you won't be seated unless everyone is present) to get a seat and not have to wait.

Keith McNally (Balthazar, Schiller's) has created the perfect faux French bistro in the oh-so-hip-it-hurts Meatpacking District.
It's not uncommon to see models and celebrities having lunch or dining here. There are also lots of other celebrity hangouts in this neighborhood.
The food is actually not bad if you stick to no fails such as steak au poivre avec frties. But the service can be spotty; most of the servers look good but can be snooty or just plain dumb.
Of course, everyone wants to see and be seen here so expect massive crowds especially on Thursday through Saturday nights. It is quite a pick up spot for singles.
This is one of those cool NY restaurants where the buzz lives up to the hype. Even after opening more than four years ago, this bistro shows no signs of slowing down.
Go to Pastis for dinner or just have a drink at the zinc bar and experience a true NY moment.

I love Westville. They're a cute, small, neighborhood restaurant on a tree-line street in the West Village. Westville uses high quality, fresh ingredients to make comfort food your mom would make.
It's a very casual place good that kind of reminds me of a small but personal diner.
I cannot tell you how good their turkey burger is! A lovely thick slab of juicy meat on a tasty portugese bun with melted cheese of course (I prefer the Swiss). The sandwich is so good it will easily convert your non-turkey-burger eating friends (a friend of mine who preferred only red-meat burgers is not addicted to the turkey burgers).
But just about everything Weastville cooks up is near perfect. The desserts especially the cookies are fresh and fabulous.
Yum! Go treat yourself and have a turkey burger. You won't regret it.

I used to use Jerri's a lot for my dry cleaning because they were efficient, honest, didn't shrink my clothes, offered free delivery and were in my neighborhood.
But lately, they seem to be dropping the ball. They are not as customer-service oriented as they used to be, they've increased their prices and they have new employees who are not as good as the old ones.
Also, they don't accept American Express which is the card I use the most.
If I'm in a bind, I'll go to Jerri's, but in the meantime, I'm searching for a new cleaners.

I felt like Carrie from SATC when one day my laptop died and I had failed to back up my hard drive. Instead of going to some chain store computer repair shop, I chose to support a local neighborhood shop.
The store is located in Union Square and easily accessible by subway. The computer geeks here are friendly, nice and don't talk down to you in computer language you don't understand. They were very patient in explaining things to me and were successful in retrieving my files. The cost was comparable to what big stores might charge for similar servicese.
I'd go back and use them anyday over a chain store where I know I'd be treated like just another number.
