Bowery Ballroom is a hipster's paradise - street cred mixed in with great acts (Liz Phair,Modest Mouse and other alt/indie bands play here).
It's located in a rather desolate and not so pleasant part of town and can be difficult to find (it's near Chinatown/Lower East Side).
But it's a cool place nonetheless.
There's a lounge area/bar downstairs that is dark with a bar in the center. The bathrooms show their age, covered with graffiti over the years.
Upstairs is the 'ballroom' with two levels, the stage and of course a bar area in the back and then a smaller, VIP, area up top.
It's a great place to catch your favorite band in an intimate setting. Get there early and snag a spot near the stage; you won't be sorry.

I'd recommend calling Tel-Aviv. They are helpful and honest about their prices. Look for coupons, they usually offer a discount to and from the airport. They are reliable and thus far, they haven't disappointed.
The cars are clean, usually black sedans, but you can ask for a larger car and they'll provide it for more money, of course.

This is the cutest little store on Greenwich Avenue in the West Village.
Tina makes the prettiest, delicate pieces of jewelry that are very stylish. When they filmed the Jennifer Garner movie, 13 Going on 30, on this block, Tina made and gave Jennifer one of her own hand-made pieces (Jennifer, classy girl that she is, wrote a lovely thank you note).
There are many pretty stylish pieces and Tina will custom make something for you. So bring in your inspiration and she'll make it come to life in a pretty piece that will have everyone asking, "where'd you get that?"

Manhattan Art Gallery offers one hour custom framing, which most frame stores don't.
They also have frame mirros, will replace glass, frame needlepoint, and work with posters, lithographs and oil paintings (like most frame stores).
I was in a bind once and they were able to accommodate my needs to have a gift framed within an hour. True, it did cost slightly more, ,but it was worth it.
Good to know that you can have one hour service if you need it.

Barneys is located on 6th between 10th and 11th and is hard to miss if you walk by quickly.
The store is narrow and small but filled with everything one might need to fix minor repairs/adjustments in a city apartment.
This is no home depot but the service is personalized and friendly. As soon as you walk in, they make an effort to help you. And guess what? If they don't have what you're looking for, they will recommend you go elsewhere (surprising).
All in all, if you live in the west village and can't borrow a screwdriver from a neighbor, then this is a quick fix nearby.

I love walking by this store; it just makes my day.
There's always a cute assortment of puppies prancing around in the two windows. I wish I could buy them all or even one but I can't (no pets allowed in my building plus when would I have the time to walk/take care of it?). I know, I know, there are people in the city who do and it's a great way to meet other people but rules are rules.
So until I move to a pet-friendly building, I'll be content to walk by this cute store and admire the puppies in the window.
Please someone, go in and buy one!

If you've ever wanted to spy on a neighbor, cheating lover, nanny, etc., then this is the store for you.
DSI is located on a busy street in the west village offering bug detectors, jammers (great for annoying cell phone users), metal detectors and other high-tech spy toys.
Electronics are never cheap and most of this store retails for $90 and up.
Worth a trip to scope out a few items.

This store is so pretty! It's the perfect little clothing boutique. Perched high above Christopher Street, one sees cute vintage shoes lined up in the window and a mannequin sporting the day's loveliest dress/ensemble.
Inside, when the store's open, one can see the designers creating dresses/outfits or dressing a model. It's a very unique experience.
Most of the creations here have been designed by up and coming designers.
The outfits are oh-so-stylish and can be had for a fraction of a brand-name designer's outfit.
Cute shop, great cause, pretty clothes.

ADV is located on a tree-lined street in the west village (the store recently moved a few doors down to a larger storefront).
This shop is a pretty paradise for perfume lovers. No need to trek uptown to Barneys or Bergdorf's, ADV carries a lot of high end perfumes, some of out of stock ones, the traditional ones and a few unique concoctions. My favorite is Creed (spring flower which Audrey Hepburn used to wear) and it's well stocked here.
The owners are very nice and helpful. Truly a little gem.

Skinklinic has some major kinks to work out. They bill themselves as a dermatologist's office which they're not. They also try to lure people in with their free treatments which don't do much because the levels are so low. Then, the sales push comes to get you to buy multiple treatments. All I can say is that my skin did not clear up after I did all of the above. Frankly, it's better to find a good dermatologist and stick to that regimen. Go to a real doctor not someplace that has people dress up like them.
