Overpriced and over-rated Mexican fare in swanky locale

Tuesday, August 16, 2005
I had high expectations for Rosa having heard great things about it. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed by the lackluster food and the over the top prices. The restaurant itself is pretty with a lovely tiled wall near the bar downstairs but a kind of stiff and blah-looking dining room upstairs. The only highlight of my dinner was the homemade guacamole which is made tableside. It was fresh and seasoned well. My only complaint? It was too small a portion for the price. The other offerings on the menu were also overpriced and not that good. I don't understand why everyone is raving about this place. Yes, the proximity to Lincoln Center is ideal and there is a lack of good restaurants in this 'hood but Rosa sadly is not one of them. The margaritas are good (especially the pomegranite one) but you guessed it, expensive. Don't waste your money here and go elsewhere.
