I was referred to Angel’s Custom Mattress by a friend who said that it was hands down the best place for a custom mattress in Los Angeles. The mattress business in general has become quite a racket, so I was skeptical, but I am glad each night when I go to sleep that I found Dan and his crew at Angel's.
My job was building a custom split queen box spring because of a narrow stairs. Not only did Angel's come through at half the price anyone else wanted to charge me, I think I received a much better product that I would have otherwise. They were also very flexible, being able to switch from my picking the mattress up at their store to delivering all the way in Santa Monica within hours.
In the next year I will need a new mattress, and I plan to have Angel's make one for me instead of going the regular mattress store route. In the store I tried out some of the newly manufactured custom jobs, and they were amazingly comfortable. They can construct a mattress any bed in any shape or size, or just build one to standard size. With a great warranty on top of that, you cannot go wrong here.

My wife and I found Coronado Jewelers because it is tucked away next to the shoe repair place with the big shoe car (Quality Shoe Repair)? But inside there is a lot to look through. There are only two guys working here, but they have a number of very unique resale pieces at very reasonable prices. My mother in law must have spent 45 minutes browsing through, and it is not that big a place.
The owner is also a very skilled jeweler himself, and created a platinum wedding band for me with the exact size, design, and feel I was looking for. We now use this place for all of our repairs and jewelry related services. Stop in and I think you will also put in in your registry of West LA services.

Had a great experience buying a wedding band from the folks at Cabochon. My wife and her mother found the store while shopping on Montana Ave. When they first came back and said they found the perfect ring on Montana, I just started seeing dollar signs around me. But the ring itself ended up being fairly priced (and they give some decent discounts on other stuff), and the team there did an excellent job of all the details needed to have her ring custom made and fit properly. They were also great in helping me figure out what type of ring I wanted, even though I ended up finding something another place.
We have had the ring looked at buy a few friends of the family who are also jewelers, and they all say the diamonds are top quality and the ring has excellent craftmanship. I will definitely shop with them for a special ocasion.

Ben's Luggage was referred to me from my shoe repair place. I had a large bag with a zipper that had gone way off track. Ben's was great -- they walked me through all the different options for making my favorite bag work again. To their credit, they really explained the pros and cons of each choice, and actually steered me towards the lowest cost repair option. This is my favorite bag, so if a full rebuild had been required, I probably would have done that. But the solution they came up with works great and cost about one fourth of what the larger repair would have. Highly recommended.
Inside the store, they also have a number of bags for sale, both new and a few that look cool and are probably repaired. Parking is easily found from the alley behind the store.

I found Langer's because they were listed as the authorized repair shop for Samsonite bags in the Los Angeles area. At first I was dreading having to travel all the way to Sunset Blvd from Santa Monica for repair (two trips - one to drop off, one to pick up). But after seeing what they did with my bag, I can say the trip was well worth it. They really know what they are doing when it comes to Samsonite. My bag was a discontinued model, so parts are hard to come by. But they were able to improvise and use similar parts and make it look like it was part of the production run.
They also have a decent assortment of luggage in the store. I was not in need of anything, but the prices looked pretty good and they had some unique styles. Definitely a recommended place for luggage.

I have taken a number of old shoes up to Maya Shoes and each time they come back with a new life. The latest pair was a pair of black Doc Martins that I got in England -- they were only sold there so I have not been able to find a replacement. The soles were wearing thin and there was a hole in the side between the sole and the lining. I thought there was no way these could be repaired. But Maya shows surprised me, and they came back better than even. They were not only fixed, but they had removed all teh scuff marks and restored it back to the high polish finish (which was the reason I bought these).
They can be a little disorganized at times, but sorting through any of that is worth the service.

When I arrived in LA from the east coast, I found a lot of places charging a lot more for dry cleaning reagular business shirts then I was used to. It was hard to figure out why a shirt would cost more than a dollar? So I initially tried VIP in Marina Del Rey because with a large enough load, the cost per shirt came to about a dollar. They did an excellent job, and I have been going back since.
But they do a great job on more than just shirts. Suits, pants, high end knits, things with stains in them, and basic tailoring are all services I used from them now. I have not tried the other locations, but this one is excellent and I always find the staff friendly, ready to assist, they find my clothes quickly, and payment is processed fast. It is a very quick in and out stop on my way to/from work.

Over the past few months, I have taken several high end suites to Classic Tailors, asking them to do some substantial work to make them fit me. One of these was even an Armani suit for a very special event, as well as a high end tuxedo for regular use. Each time I challenge them, they have come through with excellent work. It costs a little more than getting a hem from the dry cleaner, but definitely worth it.
Inside the store, they also have a collection of suits and materials, and for my next suit I plan to have them custom make one for me. It is a great neighborhood find and highly recommended for anyone who needs a good tailor or who wants to look at a custom suit without paying Beverly Hills prices.

We were referred to Demitry for our home addition, and it was the best referral we could have asked for. Dimitry and his staff have been amazing, and created solid structural designs with an understanding of Santa Monica's requirements. For anyone who knows the pain of building in Santa Monica, you can appreciate these comments. We have seen many others in our neighborhood run into unexpected issues during construction, so you really need someone who has worked in Santa Monica for a long time. The office has also been very helpful in recommending contractors and other service providers for our project.

Hurry Curry is not much to look at from the outside, and not much more on the inside. But tucked in this Indian Grocery store is a hot bar with excellent choices ready to go. They also have a one on two dinner specials that makes this a great bargain for an entrée, two vegetables, rice and naan. I stop by at least once a week, sometimes more.
