My husband and I went to El Vaquero near Polaris on a Sunday. We were amazed at how crowded it was for Sunday dinner!
The restaurant is neatly decorated, and the TVs are set to Spanish-speaking radio. A staff member greeted us immediately and showed us to our table. Before we even pushed our seats up to the table, a friendly server brought chips and salsa. The chips were very warm and crisp, while the salsa was great! It tasted fresh and was served in a cute little decanter.
There was no shortage of staff. "Busboys" stood along the wall, monitoring the guests. As soon as a guest finished her/his plate, they rushed to clean it up. We commented multiple times on the service and price.
Our server, Ricky, was very professional and prompt. He took our drink and food orders, and confirmed that he had taken the right order. The food and drinks were served to perfection, and he checked on us frequently to ensure that we were OK.
The food was served fresh and neat -- the plate looked extremely appetizing. As a bonus, the portions are huge (enough for leftovers!) and they reheat well.
We are talking of making it a weekly staple! We'll definitely go back! Most entrees were $7-$10. Without drinks, you could easily eat under $20 + tip.
On our way out, we were invited to return and also to take "carry out" menus. Our server introduced himself and shook my husband's hand.
We were impressed with the quality of the food. We were mostly impressed with the staff. A++!
There is a patio at this location where you can sit and overlook a little pond/trees that are on the BankOne campus.
