I get a catalogue from Swiss Colony every year, and faithfully order. Each year there are freebies with purchase. This year was chocolate macadamia nuts, which is a favorite with my guests. The petit fours are also well liked, and can be made into a wonderful centerpiece or arrangement with little effort. There is a wide variety of other chocolates, cakes and other sweets that I am working my way through ordering. So far, nothing has been a disappointment. I personally have not ordered the sausage, cheese and other salty products, but have tasted some that were served at others parties.

Of course there's wine. With their name, you expect wine. There is also cordials, hard liquor, and beer. The selection is huge, and the store is approximately the same size as an average grocery store. Even the extensive selection is not the best thing about this store, as it would be overwhelming and useless without the extraordinary staff. There are wine tastings scheduled most weekends. Even if you are not sure what you want, they can direct you to a real crowd pleaser that complements your menu. They respect any budget you bring, and often provide an excellent suggestion for less than what you anticipated. When searching for a gift for my mother in law, they were able to provide a great suggestion that fit her taste and became a favorite.

Publix is a grocery store with lots of extras. Besides the regular, grocery-store level bakery, deli, and other foods, Publix takes it to the next level. If you ask most wedding planners, venues, etc they will recommend Publix above all others for wedding cakes. My own having been from there, I will second the recommendation. When having a party, their deli and bakeries can be your best friend. Fresh baked breads, meat and cheese trays, shrimp rings, fresh made dips, and more. These always go over very well at parties.

The Olde World Cheese Shop is a favorite restaurant for my friends and I. There are a wide variety of sandwiches and pitas, all of unusual size. These are not subs, but are traditional sandwiches made on a variety of fresh bread of your choice. As the name implies, there are also many varieties of cheese. Everything is made with the freshest ingredients. Also sold are a selection of wines, condiments and side items, all of which I would consider gourmet.
As this is a favorite regular stop for us, for one party I ordered from their catering menu. My friends were so excited to see the food from here. There are cheese spreads that are made fresh, and taste testing is encouraged. Sample tubs are put out for customers to try the varieties. The sandwich and cheese trays were both emptied very quickly. They also make boxed lunches.
This is very much a "mom and pop" store, and the service is incredible! When filling a large order for work, each sandwich had the person's name carefully written. When I am not sure what to get, I tell them what choices I am considering, and they have many suggestions, sometimes even making a new sandwich not listed on the menu.
If you are still reading and not sold, then I say if you have $11,000 try the whale (no one ever has).

They also own many. With avid readers, the best bet it often a gift card. The best place to give a gift card to for books is by far Borders. Borders runs many promotions for teachers to receive additional discounts, and have a much wider selection and better store arrangement than their competitor that also starts with a B. I never have difficulty finding a selection in their store, with logical and extensive sections, and readily available staff and inventory searching software. Also, the gift cards can be used online. Borders is partnered with Amazon.com, so chances are, if the book exists, then they can use their Borders card to buy it. I have found many difficult to find books, even published in other countries, that have been delivered to my door through this partnership.

This restaurant has every kind of pie I can think of, including different seasonal pies. My favorite: the French Silk. Rich, chocolaty, with whip cream and dark chocolate shavings, what else could be better? Their baking prowess extends to their selection of breads, including a very popular corn bread. My father from Maine was even impressed with their blackberry pie offering. They also serve wonderful meals, and most of the pies are available for purchase whole or by the slice. It gets very busy around the holidays as many people head here instead of baking themselves. Who could blame them!

When you can buy most books online with free shipping (yay Amazon!) at lower prices than bookstores, the bookstores need to bring something to the table to make the trip worth it. While my favorite bookstores tend to be local places where the workers seem to know at least half of their inventory from personally reading it, I also enjoy a trip to the mega book stores like Borders and Barnes and Noble. Books a Million, I do not. First, their name is misleading, unless it counts having a few hundred copies of the most popular books. Also, while there was not a specific housecleaning issue, I just found the store dirty. The books are also very poorly organized. If you have a Borders near you, head there for some time in a bookstore. Otherwise, just stick to the library or online. Most libraries have better atmosphere than this store.

There is a wide selection of used books, plus the standard romance, mysteries, and other fiction. I was impressed by their collection of classic works, nonfiction and children's books. They are also very generous with credit when giving them your gently used books. If you return one of their books, they will take it unless it is in deplorable condition. They will also take others. They provide 25% of the sale price for most paperbacks. Hardcover pricing depends on if the book is a new release or if the same book is now available in a paperback. They also avoid the clutter plague of used book stores. The store is nicely laid out with complete and accurate labelings of the different genres.

This is my favorite place to go for a chicken sandwich. The meat actually looks like it came from a chicken instead of being processed and squeezed into a circle or square. And the waffle fries are fun, and hold ketchup great. It is more expensive than the $1 menus at other restaurants, but on par with most "premium" sandwiches offered by other fast food places for price. The taste is much better! You do have to dress your own, the sandwiches are meat, bread and a pickle.

My daughter and I both love to visit this store. There's a little of everything, to name a few things: lanterns, oil burners, carvings, jewelry, chess sets, stones, incense, sarongs, massage tools, hermit crabs. Touching is not only allowed, but encouraged. My daughter loves playing with the hermit crabs and looking at the different shells they offer. She always seems to find something else she wants to buy too. The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly.
