Trader Joe's is hard to beat for all kinds of food staples - frozen, fresh, grains, beverages, etc. Each store has slightly different offerings, but I believe that the one in Bellevue (I've only been in it once, vs the one in Seattle that we visit every week) has some bulk food offerings. Give a call to them and inquire about what you're interested in. If they don't have specific or specialty things, they're likely to have enough of the basics for snacking, cooking, and baking to make the trip worthwhile. While it's not bulk foods, who can beat $4.99 delicious 6-packs of TJ's brand hefeweizen and $1.50 bags of frozen edamame?

Have heard from 2 friends who went to Crush in the last few months and both were un-impressed -- the scuttlebutt was way too expensive and not good enough, hence the conclusion was that the cost and wait was more correlated with the mod furniture, the owners' savvy PR, and the "striving to be a New York eatery" hauteur than with quality cuisine and service. As with all things PacNW, there appears to be less tolerance for a shiny package in Seattle if it's not backed up by fantastic food when it's that expensive. Having been impressed with delicious and better-priced meals myself in the last 6 months at Zoe, Lark, La Carta, Pair, Matt's, Serafina, and plenty of other small consistent and "warm" neighborhood joints, I can attest that there are plenty of inventive chefs making wonderful food around town across the price spectrum... and all of these have more comfortable chairs and more reasonable reservation wait times than the short list of hyped spots lucky enough to continue riding the artificial demand driven by their coverage in NYTimes or Sunset.

I looked for weeks a couple years ago to find a low-cost car storage location in Seattle. It was hard.
If you're talking about a week or two, heck with it - there are plenty of street parking spots in Ballard and elsewhere that are adequate for a week or two.
If you want to pay multiple hundreds of dollars per month, there are a small number of indoor garage/storage options around town. They are pretty easy to find in the Yellow pages under "Auto Storage" or something similar.
However, if you're willing to let your car sit out under the elements and you need to leave it somewhere for multiple months, we price shopped and the best we could find was a ShurGard long term storage units and parking spots place out near SeaTac airport. It was decently secure -- although I wouldn't leave anything inside. I think it came out to $70/month or so. The other benefit of this place is that it's close enough to the airport that you can just take a cab from there 5 minutes to the airport and head out... and the reverse when you return.
There may be a few other long term parking places out near the airport as well.

Everything on Lark's menu is absolutely delicious, fairly expensive (but not Canlis-ridiculously expensive), and it's hip but not in the Crush "we're so design conscious that it's uncomfortable to sit everywhere" kind of way but instead in a stark-but-refined kind of way. And the tall ceilings, exposed wood, and big curtains (like Zoe, but with more wood on the floors and ceilings) look sufficiently cosmopolitan but still distinctly Northwest, so your NYC friend will be reminded more of a Gramercy park boite than a stereotypically west-coast vegan co-op.
If the wild boar is still on the menu, order 2 and package up one to go for me.
You'll get out of there for under $40 p/p if you don't order 4 cosmos. Make a reservation - the waits can be brutal on the weekend.

Ariel Dogliotti is a reliable and high-quality gardening helper who charges reasonable fees and does great work -- especially on the kinds of gardens that Seattle grows, i.e. big multi-plant gardens with lots of growth.
He also does painting, other general projects as well as his landscaping business. For instance, we had him paint a small house addition and he did a fantastic job for a very reasonable hourly fee.
He speaks fluent spanish and is conversant with a slower pace in english. Give him a call - with your input on the kinds of plants you'd like, or, even better, your advanced purchase of the plants you want put in, he will do a great job turning your garden into a landscaped wonder. And I'm sure he'd go on a reasonable "retainer" to keep it in good shape year round.

Call up the Re-Store. They have heaps of salvaged old house parts, more cool stuff than you can believe. And their non-profit. Also call up the other great house salvage joints in town, SeattleBuilding Salvage, Earthwise (down on 1st ave south), and Second Use (down near white center in a hard to find place). If you call those guys up, at least one of them probably has old house numbers.
And the old place we rented actually had some cool old tin ones that were cheap that they had gotten at Anthopologie.
If all else fails, check out the offerings at VanDyke's Restorers online at www.vandykes.com.
Good luck

These guys are amazing -- not cheap, not fast, but surely artisans in art glass and stained glass worthy of matching or exceeding the quality of mid-and early-20th century Arts & Crafts and Art Deco glass masterpieces.
They built a number of custom leaded and stained glass pieces for a large home renovation project of a friend of mine here in Seattle and all of them came out amazing.
If you want high quality, and given the price of getting the work done, shipping and handling to another part of the country (for the person asking in NYC) would probably only be a small amount of the total cost.

For a more traditional steamed-with-butter presentation, I've heard people swear by the seafood in general at Oceanaire... but for those who like a little spice and flavor Flying Fish rules.
