This place is privately run - not a Seattle City run pool - so it costs a few bucks, but the water is kept warm (which the anklebiters love) and the lessons are apparently pretty good. My wife got a "membership" or some equivalent and it was very inexpensive.
The pool up in Montlake Terrace apparently has a loooong waiting list. My wife also likes the GreenLake pool, but you need to check the schedule as it gets a lot of use from regular lap swimmers and other adult types.

Wow - have you had the absolutely decadent, fatty, tasty, unbelieveable Mac & Cheese that Beecher's makes? In addition to supporting a local artisanal food business, you are delighting your tastebuds and hardening your arteries all in one bite. It is so freaking delicious I can't stand it. In fact, just writing about it has made me want to go to their store in Pike Place Market and buy some mac and cheese for later on. so good. go eat it.

UW Medical Clinic on Roosevelt has several great pediatricians working out of it, with whom you can't go wrong. Also, the nurses there are all top notch - fun, qualified, warm, very nice people who make unfun things like shots for kids and filling out forms all feel like no problem.
We use Christine Caldwell and have very much enjoyed her upbeat demeanor and warm personality. Recently, we had to take our daughter to meet with another of the doctor's in the practice there, and he was very solid. Overall, a great clinic and you can't go wrong with whichever doctor you choose for your family and pediatrician medicine needs.

Try, I dare you, try to NOT waste 30 minutes in this place. You thought you weren't interested in hobbyist model rocketry magazines, didn't you? Nope, you're interested - check it out - they have the latest issue. Perhaps the Russian Vogue will tempt you. Or back issues of Granta. Or a locally-published 'zine of poetry. Or one of the 15+ different biking-related mags. Or Hello!. Or you just need to see your ex's brothers' boarding school friend's wedding covered in the Tattler or Town & Country, but you don't want to buy it. They've got it. Along with everything else published on glossy paper.

This guy is so good, and his staff is so nice (and gentle), that he deserves to be mobbed with calls for new patients every day of the week and saturday. However, please don't everyone go to him - then I'd have a harder time booking my regular 6-month checkups. If you don't have a dentist in Seattle, or you are contemplating a change, here's your guy -- nice, very professional, brand new offices conveniently located in the middle of downtown, never late to an appointment, and the fees he and his staff charge for regular checkups and cleanings are reasonable -- I have a decent dentist insurance program and my out of pocket costs are always very small or non-existent.
Best dentist I've ever had.

TJ's rules - Frozen edamame, check. $6-a-six-pack ales, check. Ketchup better than Heinz, check. Australian licorice that dominates Twizzlers, check. A red, green, and yellow bell pepper all conveniently packaged in a shrink-wrapped container, check. Mochi, check. I shopped for a 4-day backcountry trip sourcing entirely just-add-water food here, and it was all delicious. I love this place, and the 2-buck-chuck is at the end of my list of reasons, not the beginning.

Yes, their slider burgers avail at Happy Hour are well known to be cheap and delicious - but gd is this place packed from 5-7 most nights. We've tried TWICE to at least get admitted for the privilege of paying our $3/per or whatever it is for their coveted little meat patties, and have gotten dinged both times.
Go early or don't go at all, if you're trying to get in on the happy hour program.
Or, better yet, go next door to the relatively quiet Bell Town Bistro and have theirs - they are pretty darn good, faster, and the beer selection is better. Just a tip.

This place is great - hot spa, cold pools, even the little wet stick that you're supposed to smack yourself with to get the blood flowing. My wife went last weekend and there were big eastern europeans chattering away and sweating it out right next to the north seattle ladies. Love that fact that we have this place in a city with similar winter light as vladivostock...
