Our twins were born at 32 wks. (thankfully very healthy) so they were in the NICU for 3 weeks to grow and learn to eat. So many babies in the NICU are disadvantaged, being born to drug addicted mothers or women not taking care of themselves. I was absolutely heartbroken by the lack of visitors most of these babies had.
This led us to donate many of Margaret & Henry's baby clothes and toys to the NICU. I'm not sure of their needs, and don't know if what you have to donate would be age appropriate, but if you're interested, you could give them a call. The main number to the Division of Neonatology is 206.543.3200.

I just had the absolute best sno-cone (shaved ice, sugar free syrup) at the Rose Garden in Portland. I know that doesn't help here in Seattle but just in case you're heading that way.....
Good luck!

I know, the aforementioned terms are not usually used in the same sentence with the word "plumbers" but it's true. We called O'Neill to fix our downstairs shower and Nelson, the upstanding, honest man who came to help us in our time of need not only completed the job, he did it cheaper, and in fewer steps than what we had originally discussed. After assessing the situation, he explained our options, gave us his opinion, then let us make a decision on how we wanted to proceed.
O'Neill's prices are very competitive, actually less expensive on a couple services, from another place we've used before. (Mr. Rooter - Boo Hiss!)
If our shower ever backs up again or should my daughter decide to flush another box (ENTIRE box, mind you) of wipes down the toilet, O'Neill will be getting a ring from us.

They have selections for women and children. I don't know if they have men's and to be quite honest, I don't know if Nick & Nora even make men's pajamas. Anyway, there aren't a lot of choices but they are much, MUCH less expensive than usual.
Zzzzzzzzzz...nighty night!

Habitude is a great day spa and it isn't Gene Juarez. (Which is very good in it's own right. I'm sure my husband will soon be replying to your question with his 10 thumbs up for the Gene Juarez downtown location.)
To me, Habitude just doesn't have the "commercial" feel I get when I'm at Juarez. It's relaxing and the services I received were great. Prices are comparable too.

We had the basic WaMu savings & checking accounts when we first moved here. I had no problem with them at all, so I guess this review is a thumbs up for them as well. And I have to admit, their free checking, really is free checking. Just like the commercials advertise!
However, when we bought our house we got our mortgage through Wells Fargo and eventually moved all our accounts there. The customer service has been great on all levels and they provide scads of financial services. Even though you may only need basic services now, someday, you might need more and I'm sure Wells Fargo could accommodate you. (For instance, you could get a Wells Fargo Visa card and attain points by using it. If you spend enough - you could get a snow cone machine! How cool is that!)
P.S. I love the facility in the U-District b/c it's in a big, old, grand building and reminds me of how banks used to look. Like in Mary Poppins!

Back in the day, when I was eating fish coated in processed batter then deep fried to a crisp in liquid grease (I say this only b/c I know you're training for a marathon) I would stop by Spud at Green Lake.
The food is as good as fried fish and potatoes can get - nothing exceptional but I think you get a good amount of grub for the price. There's not a lot of seating but it's great for take-out. You could even eat it while running Green Lake! :)

My husband & I got family photos taken last Oct. with our then 3 yr. old twins. (*TWO* 3 yr olds!) We had seen some pictures Tanya had taken for friends and loved them so we gave her a shot.
First off, she's very flexible with her schedule (ie: understands napping kids do not need to be awakened). Also, she's knowledgeable about what time of day to take the photos, which angles to use, what colors to wear (ie: don't wear black or white for black & white photos). She comes up with neat places to take the pictures (ie: Woodland park, the beach at Carkeek Park - where we did ours, etc.). And what I found most important, she is patient, patient, patient with the kids (our shoot took nearly 2 hrs. and she let us be completely in control of how long we wanted to stay, let us take breaks, etc.).
Now to the final product. Her pictures are gorgeous. She takes beautiful candids, color, b&w and the prices are SO affordable. (She quotes per job, so I can't give you a figure.)
The only, only, only downside, which was TOTALLY my fault, is that I told her we wanted "family pictures" and didn't make it clear that I wanted more candids of the kids with my husband & I. Most of the ones with all of us are posed shots. She definitely would have accommodated me, so be sure to tell her exactly what you're wanting.
All in all, I think Tanya is wonderful for family pictures with kids, her prices are right and you will get many pictures (you get to keep the proofs.) Check out her website for some samples.
Good luck & have fun!

I'm beside myself that I haven't reviewed this store yet but it gets my first 5 star rating.
If you're in the market for a t-shirt with no blaring label or brand name inked all over the place, you must stop in American Apparel. This store has every color, and just about every style, of t-shirt you could ask for and the prices are very reasonable. They also sell skirts, dresses, shorts, jackets, unmentionables and men's and baby clothes.
BEWARE - the clothing shrinks, so buy big. (And I'm sure the sales staff will tell you this as well.)
Their big claim to fame is that their clothing is sweatshop free and made in downtown LA. so you get awesome, comfortable casual clothes you can feel good about too!

Mini Doe, which is run by the same person who owns/owned Pearl (formerly on 65th & Latona) is a little boutique full of cute little dresses & skirts handmade, many out of vintage fabrics.
I think the prices seem a little high for the quality but if you're looking for something unique, you should definitely drop in.
Mini Doe also sells some really cute t-shirts, jewelry and handbags.
