We lived in St. Louis (pre-kids) and were about 5 minutes from the zoo. I really liked hitting the zoo and just perusing everything it had to offer. Now I live in Seattle and have two bumpkins who generally go stir-crazy unless they can get outside. We hit up our local zoo all the time, but it ain't the same as the St. Louis Zoo.
Many, many living creatures to check out; a seriously fun carousel; lots of things to do and ride on, way too much bad stuff to eat. It's everything you want for a day of fun.
Best part -- it's free. Not so in Seattle, where you have to pony up $$$ to go and/or join. Easily a worthwhile destination while in Saint-Lo-Mo.

Try a Cost Plus. I don't know how much furniture they have but they do have a lot of accent items. I bought baskets here (they weren't cheap but they have held up GREAT) so I can't speak as to the quality of the larger items but you might go check it out.
There are several locations, including one downtown by the Market.

I don't have any personal experience about this place but I know it does make overs, etc. for young girls & "tweens". Another idea you might try - go to Nordstrom in advance and talk to one of the women at one of the make-up counters to see if they might do a "private" session with you and your daughter. Maybe you could both get a make over, go shopping for a new outfit or some new shoes then have a nice lunch somewhere downtown. Sounds like a perfect mother - daughter day! Good luck and have fun!

Spring has almost sprung and it's time to get your lawn mower serviced. Might I recommend Brewer Lawn Mower and Repair Service. This individually owned repair shop in the Ballard/Phinney/Loyal Heights neighborhood does super work and the owners are flat out nice, good people. They always get our Yard Machine up & running for the season and we feel confident that they will always take good care of us.
Happy mowing!

Frame Up Studios in Fremont is the most awesome shop for wonderful, interesting little gifts, from neat picture frames to candle holders, unique jewelry, little knick-knacks, toys & fun items and stationery. And GIRL (or guy)....the cards! I am a greeting card junkie in every single sense of the word and this place feeds my need. I love it, I love it, I love it!
I cannot speak of the actual framing but they do have many to choose from and what is displayed in the store certainly looks good. Next time you're in Fremont browsing around or are looking for that "distinctively cool" gift, drop in. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

We hit up Uli's this weekend for a variety of their brats. I hadn't been there before, so I picked up a variety of links -- Louisiana Hot links, Italian Hot vesuvios, Cajun Andouille, etc. etc. All in all, we tried five different kinds.
I grill sausages, and I despise those that cause an inferno due to a little grease. For me, if you can grill a sausage without major flames, it's a pretty good dog/sausage/brat. That was the case with Uli's.
I'm a flavor and spice guy, so the Cajun Andouille's were my favorite. They have a bunch of mild sausages for those that like to avoid the spice, but I highly recommend the spicy kind. They have the flavor to make up for it.

I remembered that The Frontier Room is YUMMY! I don't know if you're familiar with the Frontier Room of the days of yore: heavy pours and lots of late night action (even *I* got kicked out of that place) but it was redone a few years ago and now the food is excellent.
They serve BBQ and all the 'fixins' that go along with it. It's nothing fancy but man, is it good! (And I'm originally from the midwest!) If you're in the mood for some meat, try this place.

I can't say enough about Michael, my new hair stylist and latest crush. After looking carefully at my hair and facial structure, he gave me his recommendation on what I should do. BAM! It was exactly what I'm looking for! Not only did he give me a stylish new cut that I can actually replicate (I'm very low maintenance....I don't even own a brush), he has a super personality and is fun to talk with.
Even though I've been paying around $25 for a haircut for the last 7 years, I found his prices *very* affordable and worth every penny. When I go back next time, I'm even going to have him do my color. Good-bye box o' dye! This gal is movin' on up!
