Chain book stores are rapidly eating up smaller, independently owned book sellers; however, it appears that Parkplace Books has found its niche and will not be taken down! This is wonderful for anyone who lives on the Eastside who would like to patronize smaller, more personal businesses.
Parkplace Books is located on the north side of Parkplace Shopping Center in Kirkland. Recently expanded, Parkplace has added a great card/paper/small gift section and really expanded their children's area.
Local book club selections are displayed on one wall, making it easier for book club members to find their selections, but also giving other folks an idea of what people are reading and talking about. Parkplace itself has a monthly book club (or at least it used to). I attended with a friend once, and we found it relatively enjoyable (but we haven't gone back).
Sales staff is friendly and helpful, which is always important to me, and I always find shopping at Parkplace Books a "feel good" experience.
Check them out if you're in the area. I don't think you'll be sorry.

Kirkland Parkplace is a shopping center where you can while away an hour or two doing just about anything. (Well, *almost* anything!)
There are several restaurants: Purple Cafe, TGIFriday's, Noah's Bagels, Mama Lucia's. There's also a pancake house and several other places to sit down and grab a bite to eat.
Parkplace Books is an independent bookstore that recently expanded. There's a QFC, a starbucks and a Hallmark store. Parkplace movie theaters are right there as well. There's even a cheapie nail place on the back, upper level.
If you're in the Kirkland area and need to kill some time, this is a pleasant place to do it.

Cold Stone Creamery in Redmond Town Center is the place to go if you're in the mood for a yummy treat.
You pick your ice cream, which they scoop and place on a "cold stone," you pick your topping, which they add and then mix together. They have dozens of toppings to choose from - brownies, M&Ms, an assortment of nuts - along with a wide selection of flavored ice creams.
Be careful which size you choose, though, as the "good" is usually enough to satisfy. They also have a variety of waffle cones to plunk your creation into as well.
I've not tried them, but Cold Stone also sells ice cream cakes. Perfect for a summer birthday, I'm sure.
Fun place, tasty treats, kids love it. Highly recommend!

The Piccolino Deli in Redmond Town Center is pretty good, though I feel like they're a little on the pricey side.
I've enjoyed their reuben sandwiches on more than one occasion, and they've been satisfactory though nothing to write home about. Their spinach salad is quite good as well (I ask for added chicken); I like that they do dried cranberries in it. Salads are served with warm whole grain rolls and butter which are actually really tasty. For the salad and a drink, I paid almost $12. I feel that it was worth no more than $8.
I've been in once and gotten horrible service, but I'd say one miss out of a half dozen tries isn't too awfully bad in this culture of crappy customer service.

Woody's on St. Pete Beach is an institution and one you shouldn't miss if you're in town visiting. If you can get a seat on the patio around sunset, you might even see dolphins jumping in the waves.
Nothing fancy, Woody's serves up some of the best grouper sandwiches in the area. Go with blackened if you like spicy. Icy cold beer is a staple here, and it always hits the spot when you've been out in the sun, heat and humidity.
Only drawback is that they always seem busy and understaffed, but who cares as long as you have your brew and the view?

I used to work right down the street from the Kopper Kitchen, and it was always one of the first places my co-workers would try for lunch. I say one of the first because they are *always* packed for lunch.
There's nothing fancy here, but who cares when the food is so good? Waitstaff is no-nonsense, but they're busy and trying to get your food to you (and everyone else) as fast as possible. Their reuben sandwich was amazing. Think they serve breakfast as well.

Bonefish Grill on 4th St. is one of the best places to have a nice, upscale meal.
The decor is warm, cozy and romantic, and the service is usually impeccable. Make a reservation, especially on weekends, or be prepared to sit in the bar and sample some of their delicious martinis or a glass of wine.
I've never had anything here I didn't like, but I highly, highly recommend the Saucy Shrimp (delicious) and Lily's Chicken.

They do a pretty good job of distracting you with the good pours on drinks, and you can't go wrong with the view (if you can get it). Everything I've ever had here was tasty as well.
I think, if you're in town for a visit or have a lot of time to kill, this is a fine place to grab a bite. If you're in a hurry, forget it.

Johnny Rockets is a 50's style diner at Baywalk that has a good variety of diner foods: burgers, fries, shakes, etc. They serve it up on tables that have mini nickel juke-boxes (so you can pick some tunes). The food was decent, the service fine, but holy moly, was it cold in there! I know it's hot outside (and probably behind the grills), but do you have to freeze us out?
At any rate, it was a fun stop with our kids after the movies at Baywalk, and we will most likely do it again when we're in town -- and bring a sweater.

I now live in a part of the country where there are NO Chick-fil-a restaurants, and it's one of those things I absolutely crave on a regular basis.
The regular Chick-fil-a sandwiches are fine, but it's the grilled ones with lettuce and tomato that make the stuff of my dreams. And don't even get me started on the waffle fries. In my opinion, they're the best fries in the world -- all you need is a little ketchup.
Whenever I'm "back home" in St. Pete, I get me my Chick-fil-a fix. Dee-lish!
