The France Merrick Peforming Arts Center, home to the newly refurbished Hippodrome Theater, has an old-fashioned air to it. Inside and out, you feel transported back to the days when theater was IT. The work done inside is beautiful, acoustics are excellent, and there are few, if any, "bad seats." The Theater attracts a variety of big-name broadway shows, so you can see great performances without traveling to NYC. Great place for a "fancy" date, though you'll need to travel outside the immediate block for a good restaurant--but there are plenty to be had nearby.
