We ordered the dinner combination where we got a bowl of soft tofu and a plate of meat. While the meat was good, the soft tofu was ABSOLUTELY disgusting! To go Ka Ju instead because the tofu at BCD is salty and leaves an unpleasant aftertaste. This restaurant claims that they don't use MSG in their foods, which is why their foods doesn't taste as good as other restaurants. My guess is that they substitute MSG with something else in the soft tofu and that's what gives it that unpleasant salty taste. I'm not sure about the other foods on the menu but if you're going to order soft tofu, AVOID THIS PLACE!

To be honest, I felt a bit out of place eating at Roy's because it's one of those restaurants where you're there to see and be seen. I definitely recommend wearing a collared shirt and dressing slightly up when eating here.
As for parking, Roy's has valet parking but it's not necessary as the parking lot that the restaurants and other businesses share is quite large. Plan ahead because the restaurant can get very crowded a reservation might be required.
There's not much more I can say about the food. It's delicious but the downside is that it's pricey and not very filling. Still, I enjoyed the food and would definitely go there again in the future.

The Old Spaghetti Factory, located minutes from the ocean, is a restaurant the whole family can enjoy. They serve spaghetti (obviously) and for desert, you get a choice of vanilla or spumoni at no extra cost. The problem with this Old Spaghetti Factory is the location. Because this place is located in Newport Beach, you either have to valet park or find street parking along W. Balboa Avenue. I've walked as far as half a mile just to eat here because we wanted to avoid the valet parking. In addition to the parking woes, expect to wait 45 minutes to over an hour to get seated during the weekends (Friday and Saturday nights). I don't particular enjoy paying $8-$10 for cheap spaghetti but I prefer Old Spaghetti Factory over Olive Garden any day of the week.

To be honest, I decided against eating at Marrakesh after looking at their menu. The serve few specific items and the prices on the meals were outrageous. The items were all $30 and up and after entering the restaurant, I quickly got the sense that you're not paying $30+ a plate just to have your dinner. Upon entering the restaurant, we saw belly dancers roaming around the restaurant and I realized, for the $30+, you're paying for the dinner AND the entertainment. This place has valet parking but it would be wise to street park a block away from the restaurant to avoid unnecessary costs. I'm sure the food is excellent and I'm sure the entertainment is as well but it just wasn't my cup of tea as I much prefer to eat in peace.

You can usually tell if a restaurant is authentic by the customers and Thanh is a Vietnamese restaurant geared more towards the American taste. The food at Thanh was excellent and I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner experience at the restaurant but I felt that the restaurant was too Americanized and reminded me too much of ThaiFoon (another Americanized restaurant that serves Thai cuisine). I'm accustomed to Vietnamese restaurants in Westminster where the waitors speak broken English, the establishment is grungier, and the restaurant is full of Vietnamese patrons at late hours of the night. It's not that Thanh isn't a good restaurant, by any means, but that I prefer the more authentic Vietnamese restaurants located in other cities.

You'll find 99 Ranch in communities with a lot of Asian residents. Irvine, particularly, has two stores and this store is somewhat larger than the other store. You'll most likely find what you're looking for at 99 Ranch if you're looking to cook an Asian dish. 99 Ranch also offers shoppers with free fish frying service. You, the shopper, can choose ANY fish available for purchase and you can have them deep fry it at no extra cost. My only beef with 99 Ranch is that their vegetables and their fruits, while cheap compared to stores such as Albertsons and Ralph's, isn't very cheap compared to other Asian supermarkets. I usually go there to buy items that're on sale because they're usually worth the purchase but other than that, I only buy it if I have no other alternatives.

Mission Ranch Market is a specialty market that sells Persian foods, vegetables, meats, and more. The market isn't very big but you'll most likely find what you're looking for there. I had a craving for Indian-style curry so I went to Mission Ranch Market and purchased everything I needed to make my dish. I didn't buy the meat there as I wasn't sure what to ask for but a co-worker had informed me that the workers behind the meat section will cut the meat for you, however way you want it cut. While I cannot see myself going to Mission Ranch Market exclusively, I would definitely shop here again for items that I cannot purchase in other supermarkets.

Be prepared to wait because Taiko Japanese Restaurant is VERY popular restaurant. Depending on the time and the day of the week, you may end up having to wait hours just to get seated. The food at Taiko is extremely good and the combination plates make it easy to order for those who've never been to the restaurant. Like any other Japanese restaurants, Taiko isn't for those who're seriously on a strict budget but it may be worthwhile to splurge and eat something that agrees with your stomach, for a change. Taiko is located in a crowded area so it may be necessary to park far away from the restaurant.

Todai is yet, another all-you-can-eat sushi buffet restaurant where you can get anything from sushi, noodles, fried foods, and more. I don't particularly like *this* Todai because of its location inside the mall and the fact that the prices keep going up while the quality of the food keeps going down. In addition, I was there one year and one of the waitresses dropped her plates while she was collecting them and splashed me all over with cocktail sauce. The waitress didn't even apologize and just called the manager over. The manager was really cheap and said that she would dry clean my shirt and have it mailed to me. I refused and asked for her to comp the meal instead, which she refused. Good thing this all happened at the end of our meal because this experience completely ruined my dinner and they ended up paying for a new shirt, which only came out to be less than $20 vs. the $80 meal. Most restaurants will comp the entire meal if some disaster like this occurs but the manager was cheap and adamant about not picking up the tab.
Needless to say, I will never go to this restaurant ever again. I prefer West Coast Buffet across the street for the fraction of the price. Plus, WC Buffet serves sashimi, unlike Todai!

Are you in the mood for something ... well, different? If you've never tried Ethiopian cuisine, you're missing out! Take your family and drive them over to Nyala off of Fairfax. Ethiopian specialty is their dish called "Kitfo", which can be ordered raw and is the preferred choice. If you're worried about eating raw meat, don't worry! It's completely safe and eating Kitfo any other way would completely ruin the taste. The meats and the vegetables can be eaten by wrapping them in a pancake-like bread called "Injera" (pronounced in-jeer-ah). The bread tastes slightly sour, like a sour-dough bread, but it goes great with everything served on the dish.
My favorite dish is the "Doro Tibs", which is white meat chicken sauteed in some orange sauce. All dishes arrive on a plate on top of a giant injera. The injera that comes on the plate can be eaten but it will be much better eating the fresh warm injera that comes with the meal. It doesn't cost anything so if you run out of the bread, feel free to ask for it as many times as needed!
I rate this 4/5 stars. The reason why I did not rate this restaurant 5-stars is because the quality of the injera has been terrible the past several times I've been there. The bread has either been cold, stale, or too sour. The portions have become smaller, the vegetables that come with the meat hasn't been the greatest, and the Kitfo (raw meat) has tasted different every single time I've been there. The meat is either too spicy, too watery (when it shouldn't water at all), or something else. Still, Nyala is a great restaurant and I continue to go there to fulfill my Ethiopian cravings.
Parking is rarely a problem. About a block away, behind the restaurant, there is a neighborhood where people can park on the street and walk to the restaurant. I hope you can parallel park!
