They do have a non-smoking room in the back where they serve a full dinner, or you can eat at the bar. Food ranges from average to very good.
The crowd tends to be in the 21-28 range- you'll find lots of people from Montclair State University, and plenty of teachers from the schools nearby out for an after-work drink (or two).

Two of the sous-chefs from Nobu in the NYC branched out on their own and opened this restaurant just one year ago. It's been a hit from the very start. They take sushi to a whole new level, combining the freshest seasonal seafood and ingredients (many flown in directly from Japan) with non-traditional sauces, toppings, and sides.
In my opinion the best way to appreciate this place is to sit at the sushi bar (only eight seats) and order the "Omikase Sushi Bar". Until you cry 'uncle' the sushi chefs (which includes one of the owners) will lean over the bar every few minutes and place a single serving of one of their vast selection on your plate. Each time you will swear you have just found your favorite, just to have to contradict yourself with the next one.
You will drop $100 per head here, but it's probably a third of what you would pay at Nobu, and arguably even better. Like most of Montclair it's BYOB.
Update to my own review- just went again last Saturday. We managed to eat for three hours. God this place is good!

Friday nights the Brooklyn Brewery opens its Tasting Room to the public for Happy Hour. It's a casual affair with picnic tables, plastic cups, and local art displayed on the walls. Beers are $3.00 each. Hours are 6pm to 11pm. A great place to start your evening out in trendy Williamsburg. More than thirty great bars and restaurants are within 10 minutes walking distance.
And if you want the full-monty come back Saturday for formal tours noon to 5pm.

I'll have to disagree with the first review. Tabla is yet another of Danny Myer's restaurants that have excelled. Chef Floyd Cardoz does a brilliant job of combining traditional Indian flavorings and spices with European ingredients to create gourmet Indian dishes one better than the next. A good way to try this place if you're uncertain is to go for drinks and appetizers at the cafe bar downstairs. They have great house cocktails, a good selection of beers, and a thorough wine list.
If you like Indian food, but find it a little extreme sometimes, you'll love Tabla.
