Legoland is a great place for children aged 2 to 11 years old. The park has rides for very small children and enough entertainment to keep pre-teens interested. While the park can seem expensive for one time visits, California residents can buy a season pass fairly cheaply. This makes a great trip for the weekend, especially given that it is not too hot. In addition, Halloween at the park is a lot of fun.

Aquavit is a Scandanavian liquor. I did not have the drink but ate as much food as I could. The chef is Marcus Samuelson. He is extremely talented. I was there for lunch and ordered from the Prix Fixe lunch menu, which was $29. This consisted of a 3 course meal. The sea scallop with sea urchin risotto was unbelievable. The sea bass also just as good. I wish I could have seafood like that all the time.

Commander's Palace is a famous restaurant in New Orleans where many famous chefs have gotten their starts, most notably Emeril Lagasse. The food was fantastic. I did not get the chef tasting menu but it was not that expensive. The gumbo was fantastic. The seafood was extremely fresh. The service was impeccable. In addition, the overall bill was rather inexpensive. This is a place where you can eat well for a reasonable price.

I had the opportunity of dining at Tru while at a seminar in Chicago. Reservations are required as are jackets for men. The restaurant was simply outstanding. I had the chef tasting menu. While it is expensive (One Hundred Twenty Five Dollars - before tax and tip), it is also fantastic. There must have been at least 7 courses if not more. The food ranged from caviar to beef to a vast selection of cheeses to unbelievable deserts. This was truly a 5 star experience.

The Menil Collection is a museum, free of charge, that displays the collection of the Menil Family. I took my parents there when they came to visit. My father is an artist and he really enjoyed the museum. I had never seen an original Andy Warhol before and Menil owns several. In addition, there were original Picassos. We were all impressed.

Thank God for Bob McNair. Watching the Houston Texans play at Reliant Stadium in almost indescribable. The stadium is unsurpassed and will surely be the model future stadiums are built upon. In addition, watching a brand new team grow into a competitive team has been fun. Tickets are expensive and taking a family would surely cost you some dough, but it is fun. David Carr keeps getting better as does the defense. It will be perfect when they start winning.

Watching the Houston Astros play live is unbelievable. While it would be better if they were in first place, you can not complain when you can go to a game and watch Roger Clemems, a future Hall of Famer, pitch. In addition, the Killer Bees, Biggio, Bagwell and Berkman, are just as fun to watch. The seats are cheap, the beer is cold, and the hot dogs taste great. Definitely a place to take the family.

Forget the Nutcracker. The Houston Ballet is so much more. While the performance of the Nutcracker is great, the season offers so much more. In addition, season tickets are cheap. You can get side orchestra tickets (within the first 20-30 rows) for about $60 per ticket for the season. That's right, the season. The costumes are usually fantastic and the dancing is superb. Highly recommended.

I never thought I would be the type of person to attend an opera, much less like them. However, after being introduced to the opera here in Houston I am hooked. We have had season tickets for the past couple of years. It has been wonderful. Not only that, it has been fairly inexpensive. David Gockley has left the Houston Opera to work in San Francisco. I am not sure how that will affect the quality, but hopefully it will have no effect. The Houston Grand Opera usually debuts a new opera each season.

Kingwood Music School offers music instruction from drums to piano to trumpet to violin. My daughter takes piano lessons and has thoroughly enjoyed her lessons. They are very effective as my daugther was able to play songs rather quickly. In addition, it is not too expensive. The lessons are approximately 1 hour once a week.
