The Taco Truck on Rainier Avenue may look a little sketchy, but if you're looking for real deal Mexican with the added benefit of the kitschy experience of having your lunch inside a truck, this is the place to go. Yummy tortas, mulitas and tacos, great salsas - be brave, be bold, go to the truck.

There seems to be a trend these days of micro-coffee roasteries - Stumptown in Portland and Lighthouse in Seattle being two great examples. I don't think it's a new trend, but it's definitely a good one. Lighthouse Roasters isn't cozy or comfy, and I don't think I'd go there to hang out, but if you're looking for fantastic, locally roasted, extremely high quality coffee, this is the place to go. Lighthouse serves espresso drinks, some baked goods, and a good variety of house roasted whole and ground bean - it's also served at both Essential Baking Company and Persimmon. Also a great gift for out of town guests excited to visit the coffee capital of the country...

I couldn't be more excited about Vios, and as someone who eats out enough to be slightly jaded about eating out in Seattle, that's saying a lot. Vios is the reincarnation of a Greek restuarant that I think used to be on Broadway - Thomas the owner is wonderful and really involved in the whole experience. The space is comfortable, warm and simple, and they have breakfast, lunch and dinner, and also sell olive oil, cheese and other gourmet yummies inside the resturant. If you come to eat, the food is simple and perfect from start to finish - hummus, tzatziki and baba gannoush that somehow are fresh, delicious and exciting to eat; creative and satisfying side salads (like garbanzos with octopus or a simple perfect greek salad); soft, warm, slightly salty pita served with e.v. olive oil; and grilled meats that are to die for - especially the lamb and pork tenderloin. Desserts like rice pudding are simple and completely satisfying. And it's all reasonably priced, with lots of shareable plates. I ate at Union the night before at four times the price, and was ten times happier at Vios, truly - it was wonderful. Also, if you have kids, Thomas has a five year old, and has created a restaurant designed to meet the needs of food lovers with kids. You can actually go out to eat with your kids and enjoy your meal - your kids play in full view as you nosh (they also have a special kid menu - meat balls, mac & cheese, etc.). My sister was so thrilled. (And if you're looking for a quiet date night, it's possible to sit on the other side of the room and not be too disturbed by the three year olds...) It's important to note that I don't have kids - I go to this place for the incredible FOOD. Don't tell too many people - this place is so great it could get overrun.

I love this new little shop on the top of Queen Anne, and you will too if you love food and delicious shopping. The owners are lovely and VERY knowledgeable - one is a former chef, the other won an Emmy as a producer of Wolfgang Puck's food tv show. The shop is full of gourmet chocolates, fancy green teas, pretty things for the kitchen and home, and great soaps and other toiletries. Hard to capture in a review, but if you like gourmet things, you'll love this place.

I love this place - although not as luxurious as Frenchys, it's also not nearly as expensive, and do you really need an easy chair to get a pedicure? The Pro Nails staff is lovely, the quality of service is excellent, and the price is right. They just moved from the top of Queen Anne to the bottom, and are totally worth following to their new location.
