Salty's Restaurant, in West Seattle, facing Elliott Bay and Seattle has a great setting and a great happy hour from 3-6pm weekdays. On a sunny day you can sit outside in the sun, look at one of the better cityscape views, and drink and eat for a surprisingly reasonable sum. It reminded me of sitting at the Dock, in Tiburon, CA, looking across San Francisco Bay.

If you have sore feet, shoe problems, or have worn out your favorite shoes, check in with John McManus. He is a board certified Pedorthist (a non-doctor foot specialist ?). He is very personable and really knows his stuff. His business has been its location, just north of U Village, for 49 years. It is more than a shoe repair business. Before you go to a high priced foot doc, try John on for size. He sells, repairs, and constructs shoes, etc. He also consults about foot problems, provides shoe inserts, and builds orthotics.
I never thought I would get excited about a "shoe shop", but here you go.

Downtown Seattle or Northgate Seattle, Washington 98101 unknown
The starting point would be Bon-Macy's. From there, to Dania (at Roosevelt and 65th), and then on to places on the Eastside (Greenbaums, etc.)

The Alderbrook Inn is about 1 1/2 hours away, on Hood Canal, between Belfair and Shelton. It has been open for about a year after a complete renovation/rebuilding. It is beautiful and provides an assortment of amenities, including a spa (except on Mondays and Tuesdays). Very reasonable web specials. Check out the website.
As an alternative to the in-house restaurant, the only other (and maybe preferred) choice close by is the funky little Robin Hood just down the road: great food, and jazz on the first and third Sundays of the month.

OK, so Typhoon does not serve Japanese food, and so I have not been to the Redmond restaurant. It is Thai ( Thailand being close to Japan) and I have been to Typhoon in downtown Seattle (in the old Wild Ginger location). My step son is a part-time waiter in the Redmond and Seattle restaurants, and says the food is equally excellent. I think you would be going for the great food, not the decor, in Redmond.

This cafe and dancehall is the place to go to learn how to tango, swing, salsa, etc, eat, drink, and have more fun than expected in a grand old 1940s ballroom. Following the lessons, you can test drive your new moves. Check it out at www.centuryballroom.com The only downside is the unisex bathrooms, with side by side stalls, so leave your modesty at the door. The site has a complete calendar of events.

I finally went to Cafe Flora after driving past several thousand times. I had never gone before because I usually have to have chicken, fish, or some kind of meat. Well, this place of vegetarian fare only is GREAT. The Portabella (sp) mushroom Wellington was as good or better than the meaty version. A bit expensive, but worth it. Great decor as well, with friendly and knowledgable service.

This is really a review of the Essential Bakery store at Madison and MLK. The coffee is great, the baked goods are very good, the noise is loud, and the coffee service when crowded is slow.
