Navy Pier is located off of Lake Michigan. It has Childern's Museum, a Beer Brewery, and lots of little shops and restaurants. Also home to Bubba Gumps seafood restaurant made famous by the movie Forest Gump. there is a huge parking lot so don't worry about finding spots downtown. The view is magnificant, so i recommend to come here at least once in your lifetime. also there is a huge ferris wheel that i will have to ride in the near future.

The University of Illinois at Chicago was made to fulfill the need of an affordable but good undergraduate program. Tuition for residents of Illinois is fairly cheap compared to the high tuitions of Northwestern or U of C. it is divided into two campuses East for undergrads and West for medical and grad school. The surrounding neighborhoods is so -so, though it is near Greek Town. The classes are usually huge, so don't expect as much personal attention by the professor let alone them knowing your name and face. Their grad program is highly ranked, especially for their med, dental, pharmacy and biological sciences programs. Paying for masters is easy due to grad assistantships. and grad school is covered by teaching assistantships for the tuition and stipend.

The Univeristy of Chicago is one of the top 20 schools in the nation. It has one of the most nobel laureate faculities too and most of them still teach undergraduate classes. It is located in Hyde Park in chicago's south side and the campus is surprisingly small compared to other institutions. I have to praise their financial aid dept for granting so many grants/scholarships to assist the needy so that the students do not have to pay the full $35000+ a year. Each year's class is not too big, and each class size ranges from 100-200 for general classes to 20 in more specialty classes. I was even in a class of just 6 people for some senior classes. Their athletics facility is awesome as are their intramural clubs. If you ever wanted to learn a skill or sport, there is so much to offer in the evenings. Their dormatories are good, ranging from hotel style in Shoreland, to doubles in Pierce, and singles in Maclean house. Their cultural clubs are great too. Kudos to CUSA for their yearly new year show!!

Watch out for the short little kids, they are the most deadly. the smaller they are, the smaller the targe. I highly recommend this place for birthday parties. Prices are reasonable.

I have been to UIC Hospital for a few times for cold and flu symptoms. Just to warn everyone who is on the UIC student insurance plan, do not plan on getting sick after 12, in the evenings or on the weekend, because trying to make a same day doctor's appointment is impossible. Try to call first thing in the morning to get a spot. The wait is incredibly long even with an appointment. Also drugs are not covered under the plan either, you have to pay a copayment for each drug.

The Smart Museum is located inside the campus of the Univerisity of Chicago in the Hyde Park neighborhood. I have been there three times and had a wonderful experience there. admission is free but donations are welcomed. I was there for a chinese exhibit a few years ago and loved seeing all the paintings and pottery artifacts they had to offer. I have also been there for a after hours functions and they did an excellent job catering the event. so i would recommend that if you are trying to host s small function and an interesting locations try and call up the smart museum to get the rates.

The Museum of Contemporary Art is quite differernt from the pieces of art found in the collections at the Art Institute of Chicago. In this museum, there lies many pieces of abstract and modern art that involves the visitors to experience more than the visual sense. For instance there is one room in which there are lots of comfy pillows on the floor for you to sit on surrounding a large glowing yellow sphere and in the head phones there is a heart beat sound. And for the shock and awe, there was a piece with animal skins hanging from the ceiling with video monitors showing the harvesting of animal pellets. I found this museum quite interesting as i went here for a undergraduate trip for my art class.

The Art Institute is home to a huge collection of paintings that interest most who visit. It is located in Downtown Chicago and is very accessible my the "El" Train. In there besides the paintings is a precious gems exhibit which is quite interesting. Another one of my favorites is the arms and armor exhibit. You wil probably see a number of art students there as well sketching their favorite pieces of art for their classes. There are many collections in the museum including photography,modern, and paintings from asia, africa and europe.

The Field Musuem is located at the Museum Campus in Chicago. It is home of Sue the T-Rex skeleton. This musuem exhibits the cultures of different civilizations, dinosaurs, insects, and mammals. I especially like their egyptian exhibit where they have visitors walk through a simulated pyramid which includes the hidden chambers. This is a great museum to take the kids to also. There are lots of learning programs that go on here through schools, and lots of volunteer opportunities as well.
