Fantasy Nail is where I used to go to get a manicure or pedicure. It is a fine place to stop by, not really any worse or better than most places around. It just isn't the best, which is why I have kept looking. They are very sanitary and do a good job if you are just looking for a basic pedicure or manicure. I haven't really had any problems with their service other than that most of the women who work there do not speak much English, making communication a little difficult.

This place is a tiny costume shop right in Kensington. I stopped by here right before Halloween and, to say the least, it was packed! I had to drive around for a while even to get parking. But once inside I found out why a lot of people were stopping by here for their last minutes costume needs. It was filled to the brim with disguises, accessories and more. For Halloween (I'm not sure about their policy during the rest of the year) they were selling a lot of costumes but you could also rent from them. Renting from them gets you those kinds of costumes that everyone will ooh and ahh about if you show up to a party. But renting can also be pricey, much more expensive than buying those throw-away costumes that you can find at just about any store. Gene's costumes is open year-round though, so this is a good place to go if you are looking for a costume for a different sort of occassion, like for entertaining at a party or for dressing the stars of a local production. If anything, this place has a really funky atmosphere and is fun to just step inside.

I came to Kessler after feeling a little ignored at a different physical therapy center, and I was plesantly surprised by the quality of this place. It is a pretty small facility with one big room with a few old machines, but the PTs were just so friendly and helpful. When I went they immediately worked with me to figure out a schedule and a group of activities to do help me recover. They worked with me is the key. My PT watched me do the exercises, changed them if they weren't enough or were too much and made sure that I knew exactly what I was doing. This made it a lot easier to do my exercises at home. Maybe it was partly psycho-somatic but I felt so much improvement after just a few visits to this place.

Mustard Seed is a fabulous place to stop by and stop by often if you are intent on finding clothes that no one else will be able to find in the local mall. They have a good assortment of used and new clothing that manages, unlike some other thrift store, to keep up with the changing styles. They sell men and women's clothing as well as shoes and accessories like jewelery and bags. They also buy your clothes, which is good for someone looking to clean out her closet and make a little something in the process. But they don't buy just anything; you can bring in a huge bag worth of stuff and they might only take a few choice pieces. It is easy to get to if you take the metro, but parking is a little more tricky if you drive, seeing how the store is right on Wisconsin. There is a public lot around the corner, though.

This consignment shop, one of a few thrift stores in the area, is a good place to stop by when looking for funky, vintage clothes. They sell jeans, sweaters, dresses, jewelery, shoes and more. Everything is pretty nicely organized and easy to search through, which can be a problem in other thrift shops. Also, this plus is a treat simply because the people who work here a really nice. Stuff can be a little pricey ($30 for an old wool sweater, for instance) but a lot of the stuff is worth the asking price. Parking can sometimes be difficult in this area but I believe that you can park across the street next to the firehouse in the Co-op lot.

This nail salon, located in a shopping center in Kemp Mill, is one of the better ones that I have found near-by. It has four pedicure stations and around 10 manicure stations and uses primarily OPI colors. They generally aren't too busy, but you can make an appointment. The one time, however, when you might have to wait for a while is actually Friday afternoon. Since a lot of orthodox jews live in the surrounding area, I've found that there tends to be an increase in people stopping by right before it becomes Shabbat. This also means that it isn't too difficult to get a walk-in appointment on Saturday morning when a lot of other nail salons in the area might be busy. They do pedicures, manicures, acrylics and even some waxing, among a lot of other services. The prices, I've found, are a little lower than some other salons, but not too much.

This is the place to go if you need to send a package through UPS or Fed Ex, or any other way that requires you don't use the US Postal Service. They make it pretty easy here: you just stop in and they will let you know how much you have to pay and then the delivery service of your choice will pick up your pakage later. They also have a lot of materials for sending packages in the store as well. They sell everything from padded envelopes to pens to address labels. They are reliable and I've never had a problem using them.

This is a shop that is entirely dedicated to underware, and specifically to bras. It is a great place to go if you have a difficult size or are looking for a special kind of bra. They sell bras in so many more sizes than are available in the department stores or at Victoria's Secret--and they aren't all matronly looking, either. When you get there they also will give you a bra fitting, which is truly a life changing experience, seeing how most American women are wearing the wrong size. They sell corsets, strapless bras, convertibles and just about any other kind you can think of. They have a lot of the more expensive names in bras, like Le Mystere and On Gossamer, but generally it is worth it to pay a little more for these, especially if you are looking for a bra for a special event.

I really did not like M.O.S.T. when I used to go there. It just felt like there were too many patients and not enough physical therapists, which tends to be one of the most important times for guidance. When I went the PT would often show me how to do an exercise and then walk off without waiting around to make sure that I was doing it correctly and not further injuring myself. Also the PT who I had always just seemed to be in a pissy mood, not happy with her job or with helping people out. It makes it hard to believe that you are going to get back into tip-top shape when your therapist isn't encouraging. They do have a nice facility and I feel like maybe they were just better designed to work with patients who need a little less walk-through than I require.

This place used to be a haven for high school kids when Montgomery Blair High was in its original location. The high school has since been moved and the building has been renovated into a high school and elementary school. So this means that the kids are still around and waiting to raid the market come the end of school. So just stay away during the after-school rush around 2:30. Otherwise this is a good place to stop in if you need a few items, saving you the trip to a bigger, full scale market. The prices are about the same as a regular store, but it is a nice place for people in the neighborhood to run to if they realize that they are out of milk or cookies. A lot of their available food is junkfood simply because that is what the kids tend to crave when they get out of class, but they have the basic stuff that you would find at any convenience store.
