Of all of Tom Douglas's restaurants, the Palace Kitchen is hands-down my favoritie. It has a great atmosphere, which I would describe as "casual metropolitan." The menu has many good options for small and larger meals. They can accomodate small and medium sized parties (and an occasional large group if you call ahead).
Their menu rotates dishes with locally sourced products, but there are a couple of stanby favorites that you really must try. My husband and I are vehement that the Palace Kitchen serves the best burger in Seattle. The roasted chicken is also wonderful, prepared differently every time with interesting sauces and flavors, but extremely reliable. The ravioli called "Plin" as an appetizer or main course is very yummy. And you must try Tom Douglas's famous coconut cream pie. I think I may have fallen in love with my husband on the date where he ordered this for dessert. Absolutely divine!
And best of all -- the Palace Kitchen is one of the few places in sleepy Seattle that serves food after 10pm!

An excursion to Bainbridge is not complete without a stop at the Blackbird Bakery. Their pastries, cakes, cookies, and desserts are diverse, inventive, and absolutely yummy. With a cup of Jo or a hot tea, the Blackbird Bakery serves up a wonderful treat!
If you're looking for a baker for your wedding, I can also highly recommend this bakery. Their bakers are very approachable and down to earth. They prepared 180 cupcakes and a delicious coconut cutting cake for our wedding in Poulsbo in September 2004. The total cost was very reasonable, and our guests raved about the cupcakes for months! I met with Christine (one of the bakers) who was very accomodating and flexible, even sourcing a local provider for edible flowers in the color that I needed. It was a great experience.

I hesitate to write this review because That's Amore is such a great little neighborhood place that I hope it doesn't become TOO popular! This is a favorite spot for my husband and me. The food is very tasty and reasonably priced. We think their "Polpetta" (spaghetti with meatballs) is one of the best in Seattle! The staff is very down to earth, and we've never had trouble getting a table. If you go there during off peak hours (weeknights, earlier in evening), you may be lucky to be seated at one of three tables by the large bay window which has an amazing view of downtown and the sound. Great location for dinner during a sunset!

I've tried so many salons in Seattle, and while I've received decent haircuts at many, paying $60 or more only seems worth it if the haircut is awesome and you really connect with a specific stylist. I haven't had consistent luck on that front so I decided to try a new place and used CitySearch's Best of Seattle list to look for recommendations. Mode came up as the #1 recommendation, so I gave it a try, and I thought it was a great little place.
The salon is located near Whole Foods in Ravenna. It's a small salon but is also very approachable and down to earth. Paul was my hair stylist, and I thought he did an excellent job: listened well to what I wanted, discussed various options, took his time to cut (~ an hour), was very precise, and also fun to talk to. Best of all... the cut was only $30! I couldn't believe it!
First time clients can use a 25% off coupon found on CitySearch. For the money, this place can't be beat!

I found the Merry Go Round a great alternative. It has a decent selection, and their staff is actually knowledgeable and opinionated (something you won't find at BabiesRUS!). As other reviewers have mentioned, this store is a more expensive than the national chains, but for me, I appreciated going to a location where the shopping experience was pleasant and hassle-free. It is also not SO high end that you feel like you have to drive up in a Mercedes or BMW to fit in. They also do have occasional sales.
