We have used three different nursing homes in the New Braunfels area and one in San Marcos over the years with my parents. I want to be fair on this because I think all nursing homes are motivated by profit, and that not necessarily bad. But, you need to understand that at times these facilities will be under staffed. I found the food at Kirkwood to be on par with…well, hospital food. It wasn’t bad, just not gourmet. I found the nursing staff to be technically competent but stretched thin at times. The facilities always smelled good (if you have looked around, you know what I mean here) and were clean. The PT folks were actually very good.\r

In short, if you are looking for a place to dump your loved one and expect it to be a resort, those places are out there, but Kirkwood isn’t one of them. If you will be visiting frequently, establishing a relationship with the staff, and plan on being your loved ones advocate, I could recommend Kirkwood.\r
