BEWARE OF AWFUL SHOWER AND NIGHTCLUB IN BASEMENT:My husband and I stayed at the Copley Square Hotel in December. I booked the hotel via Hotwire, but despite getting a good deal, it really wasn't worth it. I don't know if they purposely put us in a crappy room because we had paid a discounted rate, but our room was facing the street (Exeter) and above the entrance to a nightclub (there is a nightclub in the basement of the hotel?) At around 2 AM, we were woken by lot of people shouting on the street, and eventually the sirens of cop cars.\r

However, that wasn't the worst of it. The worst was the bathroom, which was incredibly tiny. My husband used the shower at night only to find himself standing in 2 inches of water with black sulphur-smelling sludge coming from the drain. It was really disgusting. I especially hate drain issues, because honestly, how does housekeeping clean the shower and not notice that there is a problem with the drain??\r

In the morning, I complained to the front desk. The woman apologized but also implied that it was our fault for not telling them sooner so they could rectify the situation. But honestly, changing rooms at 10:30 PM or waiting for a maintenance person at that hour was the last thing we would have wanted to do, especially considering we were only staying the night. \r

After breakfast and a walk, we went back to the room to get ready to check out. We were surprised to see the black sludge residue still on the shower floor. Even though we were checking out that day, it would have been nice had they sent someone up to clean it. When we checked out, the woman (the same one) at the front desk made no further mention of the problem. If she had entered the problem into the computer, it should have showed up when we were checking out. It makes me think that she didn't take note of the issue and that perhaps the next guest will have the same problem.
