I had a 6 year old chihuahua that has had epilepsy for about 5 years. I recently moved to this area from the inland empire and needed an emergency vet as my dog was acting abnormally and I wanted to get her checked out. I called and explained to the receptionist that wanted to get her checked out and brought her in. Once I get there a staff member came in with a towel and took my dog to the back and the receptionist handed me a clip board for information. I gave the receptionist the number to my dog's regular vet (24 hour but too far away for me to go to) so that she could get the names and dosage of my dogs meds. The receptionist didn't even know what the meds were when the vet tech on the phone told her (keppra a standard and very common seizure med). After about 45 min I was called into a room where I waited for about another 15 min with no one ever coming in to check on me or let me know what was going on. Finally a vet tech comes in and tells me they gave her a catheter and two injections of valium (WITH OUT ANY AUTHORIZATION FROM ME), would need to keep her over night and that she would probably need many more injections. I asked her the total would be for their course of treatment she said low end around $850 high end $1600. Like I said my dog has had epilepsy for 5 years so I have dealt with MULTIPLE DAY hospital stays in the past and NEVER was the cost that high. Example my dog had previously bee admitted to the hospital on a friday evening, given at least 10 injections 2 sets of x-rays and 3 night hospital stay at her regular 24 hour vet and the total was $712.00!!!! These people, as other commenters have stated, will rape your wallet. I told the vet tech to give me my dog back and I was going to take her to her regular vet. the total for the exam, catheter and 2 injections at crossroads was $260.00. more
