My elderly mother was looking to replace the mattress from an old sleeper sofa. I was visiting from Virginia and have an SUV that could transport it, so on my last day in Massachusetts, we decided to call Cardi's in Swansea, who we'd been told sold sleeper sofa mattresses. She spoke with a sales person, who told her they had several of them in stock, which was important because Swansea is an hour from my mother's house, and because she would have to pay for delivery if we didn't get it that day. She repeated that we'd be coming from an hour away, but he again confirmed that they had plenty of them in stock. We drove the hour down to Swansea and met the sales person, who took us to the mattresses. Mom decided on one and we followed him to the register, only to be told that they had no sleeper sofa mattresses in stock! He told us that he'd have to order one and it wouldn't arrive until the end of the week, days after I would be back in Virginia. We were not happy because not only had I wasted 2.5 hours (round-trip) on my last day in MA. because he either lied or was incompetent, but also because now my mother would have to pay for delivery. Seeing that we were not pleased, he suggested that he might be able to halve the delivery fee and offer us a 7% discount off the price of the mattress. However, later that night we saw a Cardi's commercial saying that they were having a sale of 7% (the amount of Rhode Island's sales tax) off everything! I was out almost three hours of my time that could have been better spent, I was out the gas money that it took to get to Swansea and back, and although my mother was somewhat appeased because she thought she was getting a deal for her inconvenience, she found that she'd been lied to twice and the ""deal"" she got was actually just part of a weekly sale. I worked in retail/customer service for over twenty years and I recognize the value of a person's time and the responsibility of being truthful with your customers, so I'm very annoyed and disgusted that this sales person had no regard for either. Our experience was not as bad as that of some of the other reviewers, but I don't appreciate someone giving me or my mother the runaround or, worse yet, being lied to. I was ready to walk out the door, but my mother thought Cardi's was her only option for this mattress and decided to purchase it then and have it delivered. In retrospect, I wish I had convinced her to leave and taken her somewhere else. The mattress is supposed to be delivered at the end of this week. If it does not go as expected, anyone tries to pull anything or lie to my mother again, I'll post an update. I would not choose this company again. Again, this was not as bad as other experiences, but between this fiasco and the other reviews here, I would not feel confident making any large purchases from Cardi's. more
