A New Orleans Gem w/o the Lines 1/17/2011

I agree with reviewer 'rodtrent'. I never go to New Orleans without visiting The Pearl, one of my NOLA favorites. Yes, I love Acme Oyster House, too, but The Pearl is more spacious, relaxing and there is no waiting in line. Many tourists miss it because they do not venture out of the French Quarter. The Pearl is just steps across Canal Street in the CBD. 2 mins! The gumbo is some of the city's best. I love the fried oyster po'boys that leave me satisfied for hours. I love the bread pudding but rarely have room left. The waitresses are sweet and motherly. If you love Americana like Route 66, you will appreciate the late '50s-60's design that reminds me of the To Kill A Mockingbird era. I hope they do not destroy the ambiance by 'updating' the decor that survived Katrina. This is not a foofy place to dine; it is a relaxing place to meet a friend for lunch. My New Orleans friends love it. Make sure to photograph the classic neon sign. more
