Quack's on the drag ruled the day, as did Hyde Park Bakery in it's day (for you neos the former morphed from the latter) . Sadly, the merger did them both in, although we still love to pick up some baked goodies on weekend mornings. Anyone remember the Peasant's Soup, or the walnut scones at old Hyde Park baker? They were incomparable. The chocolate croissants, pecan snails, danishes and cute theme cookies are pretty darn up there so much is forgiven. But with the flies, witless, unfriendly need-a-bath-soon staff, dank and glum atmosphere it's a place to stop in and pee, and maybe pick up some baked goods on the way out if feeling sympathetic. Really people, get a clue. It is now only because Hyde Park neighborhood expects a bakery to occupy that spot on 43rd street that the present establishment even exists today. OWNERS: rethink your presence here, you're losing it fast.... If it weren't for Huff smoking cigs on the bench outside, extolling abstruse wisdom through his crackled cosmos then this place wouldn't have any 'je ne se qua' left.
