Really the Chelsea hotel is a Hostal. And I've stayed in a number of them, so not knocking hostals. They are awesome for budget travelers and students. I just think they should be clearer about this on the website so you are not expecting something more. The lobby is cute and artsy, and the overall structure of the building is interesting, but the rooms are not nice. And like others below, I did not feel secure that someone couldnt just bust into my room at anytime--from inside or from out, as the balcony door seems accessable to anyone. BUT--I have to say that the bed was comfortable, there was Cable TV, and the AC worked better here than at hotels twice the price. Bathroom clean, and the toiletries much better than you would expect at such a run-down hotel. I would stay here again only if in a pinch--or if traveling in a group.
Pros: Great AC, good location, a comfortable bed
Cons: Dirtyish even for a Hostal
